Day Ten

Homeward Bound

Sunday August 17, 2031

After getting up early, we were ready to go to the airport. We wanted to be prepared for getting there about two hours before we have to fly. Also to be ready for our next taxi ride.

"We should eat something for breakfast." James said.

"Yes, I suppose we can use room service since we don't have time to go to my aunt's diner or your place for breakfast." I said.

"Yeah, we're short on time. Maybe when we come back, we can go to your aunt's diner." James mentioned as he packed his personal bag from the bathroom.

"That would be nice. I think we should bring the kids to meet her."

"It will be loads of fun for all of them!" He said, laughing while getting ready.

"I'll have to find out when she comes to California to see Earl." I remarked while I finished my packing.

"A wise idea! That way she can meet them and get an idea on the boys and Becca." He said.

"I think so too." I said as he ordered room service for us.

Our food arrived soon after we were done with our packing. We had their continental breakfast so we will not be hungry for our flight.

After breakfast we checked out from the hotel and took a taxi to the airport.

"Here we go! Our last taxicab ride!" James eagerly said as the driver started the car and headed into traffic. It was early morning, somewhere around six or six thirty. Our flight leaves at eight and lands roughly at noon or twelve thirty depending on whether the plane catches the wind and arrives earlier than planned.

"Wow, I'm surprised there's not a lot of traffic at this time of day!" James observed as the driver drove us straight to the JFK airport.

"You should be lucky picking the right time to fly wherever you guys are going! Also it's Sunday! Either people are going to church or getting ready for school to start." The driver said in response to what James had said.

"I guess you're right." James responded.

"Sunday is always a good day to fly or out of New York!" The driver said with a New York accent.

"Guess we should remember that for the future." James said and touched my arm. "Be sure to stow that in your notes!" He added and winked.

"Sure thing!" I said and smiled back at him.

Just before we reached the airport we informed our driver where our flight is taking off. He stopped at the correct arrival area. This time we had three pieces of luggage, one for all of our souvenirs so they will arrive safely.

"OK, here's your arrival part." The driver said upon parking at the area and helped us unload the trunk. "I like that, you two are light packers! Three pieces of luggage. I hate it when I get those who bring their whole house!" He laughed, like he was joking.

"At least we didn't bring our kids. Then it would be more luggage!" James said as he took care of his luggage.

"Well, have a safe flight! Also I hope you two enjoyed your stay in New York." The driver said.

"We did. Had an excellent time at Coney Island and spent part of it in Brooklyn." James remarked.

"Brooklyn, huh? I used to know someone from Brooklyn." The driver said.

"Whereabouts in Brooklyn?" James asked.

"Somewhere near downtown and those abandoned homes."

"We were there recently and had the police scare away some squatters." James responded.
