JFK Airport, New York

August 12, Tuesday

We landed at JFK airport around eight at night. The flight attendants did not serve us any refreshments since the flight is an hour long. James was telling me about a restaurant he enjoyed the last time he was here. It was somewhere near the hotel and the Brooklyn museum. He said it was more like a diner and had excellent food with some of it reminding him of what his mom used to cook.

"They have good apple pie as well." He said.

"How about meatloaf and mashed potatoes?" I asked while I read.

"I don't remember that being there but they might. I do remember eating sandwiches there too. The delis there are excellent and somewhat expensive. If you want something like roast beef or a sandwich like Subway's, I can direct you to the right place." He said.

"I suppose we can find pizza there too!" I joked.

"Yes, maybe we can do that one day and also you will experience the best pizza while we're there." James said in excitement.

"Sounds like you really enjoyed your time there when researching Jacob Bennett!"

"Yes I did. Also I had help from Gayle and a few of her well-connected friends." He said, smiling at me.

"We may want to use them this time." I suggested.

"Yes, I almost completely forgot about them. We should wait and see if we need any help."

"You're right, we're just arriving. I would think of giving it a day or two before contacting any of them." I said.

Soon the plane landed at the airport. Once the pilot announced we were safe to stand up and unload the overhead storage, James popped up like a Jack-in-the-box and pulled out our carry-on luggage.

"I hope you can direct me towards the luggage carousel because the last time I was here was back in my twenties." I reminded him.

"OK, I'm sure they may have changed some in the past twenty years." He said before we got off the plane.

"It was when I went to Europe during my college days. Also coming back to the states." I said as we walked off the plane.

"It's been a good while for you." He said as we stopped and looked at the signs directing us to the baggage claim area.

When we got there, we saw the other passengers that were on our flight.

"Are we getting a taxi to the hotel?" James asked as we stood at our luggage carousel, waiting for the luggage to spill out for everyone.

"Uh, I guess so. Not unless you can come up with a bright idea for our transportation to the Brooklyn Hotel." I answered. We glanced around until we saw some of our luggage and James lifted it and placed the luggage on the floor.

"One more! We did check in two pieces, right?"

"Yes! Mine's black like yours but with a yellow ribbon attached to the handle." I described for him. He spotted it going around and when it arrived near us, he seized my luggage and then we were ready to go.

"Maybe we can find a taxi willing to take us to Brooklyn and a fast one too!" James said as we walked towards the doors. We were wearing comfortable clothing for flying like jeans and t-shirts. James slung on his leather jacket just before we went outside. We saw a bank of waiting taxicabs and I let James pick one. He's more familiar with working with taxi drivers than I am. Once he found one who was willing to go to Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Hotel we were on our way.
