LANDO

It wasn't her, I scanned the entire audience when I went out ready for the national anthem, and she wasn't there.

But why was my mind playing tricks on me now?

Why after all this time of thinking about her, subconsciously, would it show me her face now.

Chances are she forgot all about me the moment we parted ways. I was a no one in her eyes. I couldn't even hack it to make believe in myself enough to believe I would make it here today, how could I have expected anyone, especially someone as incredible as Baylee, would believe in me either.

I knew she was in a relationship she really didn't want to be in, and sure, the things we experienced that night were absolutely mind blowing, in my mind anyway, but perhaps I was just a vessel of fantasy. Perhaps she just needed that one night to experience something that wasn't her life, it didn't matter who I was, she just needed someone.

The moment we decided to part ways, we made what felt like empty promises to visit each other again in a year. But I wasn't good enough for her then, and I'm not worthy of her now.

That boyfriend of hers, whatever his name, wasn't giving her the love and attention that she needed, she deserved. It is selfish of me to believe that I could give her anything better.

Not now.

"Lando?" George asks as we make our way to the lineup for the ceremonies to begin.

"Try not to run into me this week, hey" I tease after our little nudge last week. Which was probably my fault, but we wont tell him that.

"Just do us both a solid and move over in turn one then" he chuckles.

I find myself continuously glancing over my shoulder toward the crowd, just to double check. I was now questioning myself on the placement of where I thought I saw her.

"Who are you looking for?" George asks, nudging my shoulder.

"No one" I shake my head, turning back one more time, "I just thought I saw someone I knew"

"Baylee?" George asks.

The mention of her name snaps my attention toward him, my lips parted in shock.

"What?" I mumble.

"You know Baylee, don't you? Jade's friend?" He looks at me like I should know what the bloody hell he's on about.

"Ummm" I hesitate.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure Carmen said they knew you" he nods his head.

"What? What did she say?" I urge, begging for more information.

"Carmen, know's Baylee's friend Jade, their parents met on vacation together last year or something, and I think they keep in touch.." he starts rambling.

"George, what did she say?" I demand, impatient.

"Oh, Carmen was talking to Jade and they had plans to come here today. Carmen was talking to Jade earlier at the Mercedes lounge, there was another girl with her which I assumed was Baylee, Jade said Baylee knew you" George shrugs.
