Again Link found himself screaming. Screaming and falling though space. The hole at the base of the Deku tree was cylindrical and jet black from soil or age or rot. The walls felt very close to him as he sped along, but also incredibly far from his reach at the same time. Link had barely had this thought when a light below him caught his attention, and with a thunderous SPLASH he landed in a deep pool of water in what seemed to be a torch-lit, cave-like chamber under the Tree.
nbndnt: :o Are there any passageways anywhere?
As he surfaced, gasping, from the deep portion of the water, he saw that there were a few areas of dry land hear him. One had a lit torch next to it, another sported a massive wall of webbing on one side. The third, largest place to stand was above a ledge too high for the water logged Link to climb or jump to. As he swam forward, he also found a part of the pool shallow enough for him to stand, though he found that being knee deep in cold water, and fully submerged left him equally wet and cold.
nbndnt: Can we climb the wall with the webbing?Link got back in the water, and struggled for a but before making it to the patch of dry land with the webbing. He found climb-able vines near one wall of the chamber, leading up to the Deku tree's "ground floor." The webbing itself was less inviting: too thick from him to cross, so sticky that slicing it with his sword did nothing (as loose strands would clean together almost at once), and impossible for him to climb. Although, in attempting to climb the webbing link was able to spy a square door on the other side of the web.
nbndnt: Can we somehow go behind, around the webbing?
ZetaThetaBeta: Nope, you have to find a way through.nbndnt: Hmmm. Can I pick up the torch?
ZetaThetaBeta: No its one of those large, floor mounted torches...
nbndnt: Can I light the deku stick and then bring it to webbing? To try and burn it?With a feeling of desperation, Link swam and trudged to the platform with the torch, noticing that it was slightly higher than the site with the webbing. Using his last deku stick, Link ignited the end and took a great leap across the water...He fell the first try.
But on his second attempt, something amazing happened! Link had to tuck and roll to make it from the torch to the other side of the water, and when he came up, the smoldering stick was almost extinguished. Upon pressing the glowing tip to a strand of webbing, however, the whole wall of sild ignited like oil-soaked rags, burning away quickly in a matter of seconds but leaving the damp wooden walls of the Deku tree's root system unscathed.
nbndnt: Yay!
ZetaThetaBeta: :)In addition to the walls of the Deku Tree, a plan wooden door stood out against the wall, now that the spider web was gone.
nbndnt: Let's open the door!
ZetaThetaBeta: Woo!The room was bare and founded with walls made from packed earth. Cobwebs on the high ceiling were out of reach and the only features were a door to Link's right that was held in place with metal bars and a bush in the center of the room that quickly revealed itself to be an attacking Deku scrub!
nbndnt: Oh my! Is it attacking us?ZetaThetaBeta: Yep. Scrubs man. He fired a nut at you, remember you have a shield, a sword, and also your slingshot (among other, less useful, tools)
nbndnt: Not sure if I used the sling shot or the shield... let's go with the sheild?
Link was prepared for it this time. He skills were honed and sharpened... from all of the times a monster hit him in the face so far. A couple failed bounces and soon a nut fired from the Deku scrub found its way back to the offending creature. With a SMACK the nut shattered, throwing the scrub from its burrow sending it running around the room squeaking in pain.
nbndnt: Can I talk to him?
Link tried to call out to the scrub or gets its attention in some other way, but the poor thing was bouncing off the walls too fast to notice the green-garbed assailant trying to flag him down.
Trying to talk to the scrub while he was moving seemed futile, and Link was beginning to wonder whether the scrub would resume hostilities if it made it back to its burrow before he had a chance to get close.
nbndnt: Let's chase him to the burrow.
Link rushed into the room, first intending to chase down the scrub, but instead, swerved to stand atop its former burrow. Eventually, he was able to grab hold of the scrub as it passed, making it squeal in instant surrender.
"Please forgive me Master!" It said, "I'll never do it again! If you spare me, I'll teach you something cool."
Link was silent, neither letting go nor attacking, so the scrub went on.
"You will never beat my brothers up ahead unless you punish them in the proper order. The order is 2, 3, 1! Twenty three is number one!" It went on, as if trying to be helpful.
"Do you think I'm a traitor?" It asked, but when Link opened his mouth to answer, or at least to react, the scrub gave a mighty, lurching twist and slipped from Link's grasp. In no time at all, it had sprinted to one of the doorways and burrowed under it.
Link moved as if to follow, but then noticed that the doorway to his right was decorated on top by a metal rhombus with a carving of an eye on it.
nbndnt: Can we do something with the door? Can we touch the rhombus?
ZetaThetaBeta: The door has no handle, its just a flat surface with iron bars in front of it. The metal rhobus with the open eye carved on the surface is too high for you to reach.
nbndnt: What else is around it?
ZetaThetaBeta: Not a whole lot. Its basically just am empty chamber with two doors now that the scrub is gone.
ZetaThetaBeta: I can give you a hint if you ask or if you struggle for a predetermined number of choices? like 3?
nbndnt: 3 choices?
