Author's Note: I do not own the rights to any of the intellectual property from the Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. Large descriptive sections of this game will be written by me, and discussed by myself and volunteer as she learns to "play" the game. Our asides will be formatted as if part of a script, while the main body will be formatted as general prose.

ZetaThetaBeta: so we're starting a game called The Ocarina of Time. its probably one of the top 5 video games in terms of story to ever be made, and its also one that I also have (sort of) memorized.
Chapter 1- We need to understand the world here so a narrator is stepping up to do it for us...

"In the vast, deep forest of Hyrule, long as I served as the guardian spirit," says our narrator."I am known as the Deku Tree." Our attention is drawn to a room- a large wooded room made from the cavity of a single, massive, hollowed out tree stump. among the simple tools and furniture is a bed along a back window. A boy, around 11 years of age, and glad in green clothes and a long green cap to cover his yellow hair, sleeps in that bed.

"The children of the forest, the Kokiri, live with me" says the Deku Tree. We can see the boy shudder a little bit, still sleeping. "Each Kokiri has his or her own guardian fairy," as we look closer at the boy we can see that his sleep is restless.
"However there is one boy who does not have a fairy" adds the Tree. The boy shudders and we hear him moan...

CRASH
We can see inside the boy's dreams now. Thunder rolls and booms and rain splatters the landscape and we watch the drawbridge of a fortified town being lowered with rhythmic clanks and groans to accompany the stormy night. There is a golden, triangular symbol on the stone arch of the drawbridge gate but we don't have much time to look before a horse and rider come bursting out from the gate itself. the rider is a tall, gray haired woman, her horse is white and saddled with lots of decorative finery. Despite the apparent high class of her steed, she rides as fast as she can, as if running from death itself, and bolts past the boy as he stands, sodden and shivering before the drawbridge to watch her go. A fairy circles over links head and forks of lighting strike the crown along the horizon- and the boy, Link, notices that woman is not alone in her saddle.
Sitting in front of the woman is a girl Link's age. Blonde and blue eyed just like him, but with a horrified, worried expression: her face streaked with tears as she looks at Link one second, maybe two, before the horse is too far away to make out though the rain.

Another flash of lighting behind the boy makes him turn back to the gate and there, standing before him, is a man. He is tall and powerfully built. His reddish hair and greenish skin appear alarming to the boy, but the real thrill of terror comes from the man's malevolent gaze and from the massive, jet black horse he sits upon. The horse rears angrily and thrashes its head. The evil look man meets Link's eyes, just as the girl did before, and he reaches down at the boy who stands, rotted to the spot by his own terror.

"Navi, Navi, come hither," says a familiar voice.

ndnbnt: You look a bit like Data, have you noticed?
ZetaThetaBeta: (these cutscenes are long) Howso?
ndnbnt: So you havent :) Sorry, continue
ZetaThetaBeta: Haha ok

We see a fairy, so small as to be almost invisible, her body obscured by a bight orb of white light, flutter up to the trunk of a large tree.

"Oh Navi the fairy, listen to my words, the words of the Deku Tree," the voice from the tree pronounces. "Dost thou sense it? The climate of evil descending on this realm?"The tree goes on: "Malevolent forces are, even now, mustering to attack our land of Hyrule. For so long the Kokiri Forest, the source of life, has stood as a barrier, deterring outsiders and maintaining the order of the world. But... before this tremendous evil power, even my power is as nothing.""It seems the time has come for the boy without a fairy to begin his journey. The youth whose destiny is to lead Hyrule to the path of justice and truth.""Navi, go now! Find our young friend and bring him to me. I do not have much time left...""Fly Navi, Fly! The fate of the forest, nay the world depends upon thee..."

ZetaThetaBeta: Questions so far? we havent started to play the game yet but we're close

ndnbnt: I need to reread it
No worries, gives me time to plan how to write the next stuff
ndnbnt: what is link? or who? is that a name?
ZetaThetaBeta: Sorry! I was in another window, yes that's the name of the boy who had the bad dream
ndnbnt: Ok ok. I think I'm following :)
ZetaThetaBeta: Cool, i am trying to format this as I go, give me a sec.
Oh god, formatting this for Wattpad is a nightmare
ndnbnt: :/
ZetaThetaBeta: when I drop it into Wattpad it preserves all the original formatting of the lines, and when I drop it into a Google doc everything the ctl+c keeps the black Discord background.
ndnbnt: Ouch
ZetaThetaBeta: OK I have it figured out. I can loose all that formatting by pasting it into a word-counter-window. BUT I think i also picked up some kind of virus? So far all its doing is giving me an anti virus alert saying that I've been hacked... but it does it every 60 seconds and it seems to only pretend to be a warning from my browser when my broswer is on so that's... cool

Anyway, back to the story?

Navi the fairy rushes away as fast as her small wings can carry her. Away from the large tree, through openings in the forest, between the legs of a Kokiri boy standing guard near the tree, she flies in search of Link. Flying high enough to see the whole village she scans for him. We glimpse a number of houses, nestled into a small, flat-bottomed valley. All made from the hollowed stumps of giant trees and all cluster together near the banks of a small stream that seems to flow into the valley from the forested hills behind. We pass a little girl sitting on what appears to be a shop, coversing with her own fairy, we see other children (but never any adults) milling about the center of valley doing chores or walking from house to house. Eventually, Navi finds the house she wants and in a rust to reach it flies right into a wooden fence instead of passing between the slats. Shaking herself off, she tries again, swooping into the wooden room, and stopping to hover over the sleeping boy.

ZetaThetaBeta: We're getting close to being able to play the game, so keep your wits about you ;)
ndnbnt: ok

"Hello! Link, wake up!" Navi says. "The Great Deku Tree wants to talk to you. Link, wake up!" When Link continues to shudder and toss, dreaming, Navi flies in complicated, jerky patters and yells "Hey! C'mon! Can Hyrule's destiny really depend on such a lazy boy?!"
Link finally awakens, and pushes himself into a sitting position, giving the fairy his attention.
"You finally woke up!" She says. "I'm Navi the fairy. The Great Deku Tree asked me to be your partner from now on! Nice to meet you! The Deku Tree has summoned you! So lets get going right now!
Link gets up, rubs the sleep from his eyes and starts toward the  door, and ultimately, the adventure of a lifetime.
