Upon entering the carnival, they both became enamored by the glamorous lights that glow in the dusk. Denji was particularly drawn to the heavenly smell of the baked goods that came from the fair; and all of the prizes that he could win. "Wow!" he remarked at one incredibly large stuffed animal, a penguin. "Look, Reze!" Denji says, "He's so cute! I want to take 'em home!" He begins to walk over to the booth, fully intending to grab the children's toy.
"Denji! No, that's not how that works; you have to pay and try to win it, see?" She points to the sign. "It says: five dollars to enter. You have to get perfect marks to win the penguin." The game looked simple enough. You threw a ball and hit the little clown targets. Reze and Denji mindlessly stare at the couple in front of them. Similar to them, they were attempting to win a stuffed animal. It was a dull attempt, though. He could barely get enough momentum behind the ball to throw it straight. He hit not one target.
Reze looked at how happy gazing upon the large stuffie made Denji, and a thoughtless smile still spread across his face. It's only five dollars, she decided. "I think we need it; it is awfully cute," Reze tells Denji. She grabs a rolled-up five out of the back of her shoe and grasps it in her hand, ready to attempt the game, when the boy in front of her demands to play again. A solemn pause comes about Denji, but he is patient nevertheless... Watching the boy fail his throw yet again, Denji was ready to announce that it was his turn to play the game, but the boy in front of him paid for two more turns. Annoyance washes upon Denji's face
"HEY!" He fumed, "You were shit the first time, so you're going to be just as shit the second, third, fourth... However many times!" He angrily declares, "Give me a turn!" He tells the boy,
"Hey man, who do you think you are?" The boy stands up to Denji, who yanked the ball from his hands despite his protests.
"I think I'm the guy that going to win this stupid game! Haha!" Denji snaps back, sticking his tongue out at the couple, then throwing the ball so hard that it ricocheted off the wall and hit him in the face; but it hit the target never less. "OUCH!" He yelped in shock. Holding his nose which was now numb and bleeding from the force of the ball. The carnival worker unhooks the penguin and hands it to the young couple who paid for their turn. "Hey! That was my doll I won it!"
"We paid for it!" The girl snaps back, "It's ours!"
"Nuh-uh! Give it back!" Denji roars, grabbing a hold of the doll and getting into a tug-of-war battle for the penguin.
"If you cause another scene, we'll have to kick you out." The worker informs Denji. Denji didn't want to spoil the evening so he admitted his defeat. He sighs; and lets go of the doll, a visible sadness now lingering on him. Upon turning away from the conflict, Denji perks back up, a little happier than his usual self at the sight of a girl- his girl; holding a penguin plush that was almost as big as her. As Reze held the doll for him to take, her eyes poked from behind it, staring up at Denji with a smile.
"I won it from the booth next to us." She tells Denji, "It looked like the people in front of us were trying to win the same doll- I didn't want to take it from them."
"They won it," Denji told her.
"Really? That's great!" Reze warmly smiled, handing the penguin over to Denji who had an easier time carrying the stuffed animal. With the stuffed animal out of her line of sight, shock enters Reze's face. "What happened to your nose? It's bleeding!"
"Well... I helped them win the penguin... But I threw the ball too hard. And it hit me all over the face!" Denji expresses, still bitter about the situation.
You got tired of waiting on them and took their turn. Reze giggles at her own thought, "Aw, well at least you helped them win their penguin. Now everyone is happy!" She beams
