Yumeno + Dazai

Q entered the PM at 6 years old. Mori assigned Dazai to find out their ability. Its obvious from Fifteen that Q latched onto Dazai as like a big brother bc he looks like their doll. Even though their dynamic soured, Dazai sees a lot of himself in Q. Thats why he "hates" them.

In Fifteen Q is excited to meet Dazai and play w him. Dazai is semi-obliging but he obviously doesnt like the naïve admiration. They spent a lot of time together finding out about Dogra Magra, and at some point Q's ability led to disaster in the PM, resulting in many deaths.

Even though Dazai + Chuuya both show bitterness towards Q about this incident, its more likely this was an accident. Q is a child who has little control of their ability and quite honestly that disaster *couldve* been avoided if Dazai was doing his job and supervising Q to begin with, since he can evidently nullify their ability relatively quickly. (Though there mustve been some trial and error, since he mustve touched Q first instead of their doll, which seems to be the main source of Dogra Magra). Dazai was responsible for Q so indirectly those deaths in the PM were his fault. But he doesnt want to acknowledge that and instead blames Q, something Mori does quite often hence Dazai inevitably picked it up from him just by close association.

In many ways, Q represents everything Dazai wants to run away from. Like him, Q was dealt with a terrible hand since childhood and was taken advantage of by Mori. Unlike any other character, Q understands Dazais childhood psychology better than most, and Dazai resents that. He doesnt want to explain or make sense of Q's reality + trauma bc that would require:

1. Him acknowledging his past crimes, which he avoids and

2. Him confronting his inner child *in the form of the child he abused.*

To even begin to reconcile w Q is to open up deep childhood wounds within himself, so ofc he "hates" Q, but its far more nuanced than that. When Dazai spared Q when he couldve killed them after the fight w Lovecraft, it wasnt just his promise to Odasaku that made him do that. Him, Chuuya, and Q *grew up together,* so SKK both knew Q was going to make it out alive. It was an empty threat that indicates Complex emotions rooted in their intertwined childhoods that neither, especially Dazai, wants to unpack. Q, however, is different from SKK bc theyre still 13. Theyre still living in that juvenile hell SKK "outgrew."

Their horrifying youth is a constant reminder that adulthood is not going to save them from their adolescent traumas, bc even if /they/ grew up and "moved on," many still suffer what they suffered, and it makes them guilty and afraid.

Let's also not forget the symbolism behind Q's ability: It only activates when someone *hurts* them.

On top of them being a literal child, this fundamentally puts Q in a victim position, as we learn later they genuinely dont have much control over their "gift." We see that at 13 Q uses razor blades and bandages to harm themselves and activate Dogra Magra. You dont need much of an imagination to guess where they learned that trick from. Q seems to harbor more antipathy towards Dazai than Mori, which might be bc Dazais a traitor to the PM, which Q sees as Dazai abandoning them. Mori mightve also fed Q lies about Dazai once he left, and the more you hate someone, the more you loved them. Dazai knows he let Q down and abandoned them to save himself from the PM's toxic environment. And he knows Q is going to grow up someday and realize all of this, why they were left behind, and will mosty likely want revenge.

He dreads that.
