This is one of the most fascinating SKK scenes hands down. I see a lot of ppl shitting on Chuuya for punching Dazai and scoffing when he called himself human here, but if you actually read into the context of the scene + what comes after, as well as consider both of their characters, you can see where Chuuya's coming from and might even say he's justified. Dazai *was* being a piece of shit and he *knew* that. It was intentional. I doubt he wanted Chuuya to actually punch him, but rather get an emotional reaction out of him bc Dazai himself cant bring himself to care much about the Dragon's Head conflict (or at least he says he doesn't).

The scene opens with Chuuya searching for Dazai bc Mori summoned them to talk abt the Conflict, which Chuuya calls the worst event in Yokohama history. Dazai agrees, but the reasons he gives for it all being so catastrophic are presented through a detached set of statistics that *acknowledges* the fact that it's a disaster, but nothing else. There's no sympathy or emotional concern in Dazai's summarization of the war, which is further emphasized by his stupidly insensitive (and, ironically, irrational) comment that everyone should just die and get it all over with. It's something so typical of him to say, which he's counting on.
