I yawned, turning over to look at my clock.
Holy crap. It was already 11:30…
I got out of bed, stretching. I had really slept in. I did the usual routine, brushing my teeth, combing my hair, before going down for some breakfast.
Or, in this case, lunch.
I grabbed some cereal, sat down at the table, and gobbled it hungrily.
“Good morning sleepyhead.”
I turned around in my chair to see my mother, holding out our home phone to me. “One of your friends called.”
“Which friend..?” I asked, a little wary.
“Arianna, something about a party tonight?”
I had completely forgotten to tell her.! “Oh yeah! Im going to Jacob Herter’s party tonight at his house.”
My mother’s face light up. “You’re going to a party? That’s great honey!!!”
She was obviously thrilled I was getting out of the house, especially since I was going to be going with a friend. “Yup. Here, let me call her back.” I said, taking the phone. I read the number on the screen, dialing it quickly.
“Hello?”
“Hi, Arianna, I heard you called.” I said, putting away my bowl of cereal.
“Yeah, I didn’t know your cell so I looked up your home in the phonebook. Anyways, are you coming tonight?” she asked, sounding a bit hopeful.
I thought about it for a minute. “Yeah, I’m coming.”
“Great! If you want a ride with us, we can pick you up. My friend Lila is coming along too.”
I smiled to myself. This could be fun. “Sure!”
“Awesome. I’ll pick you up at about 5:45, so we get there right at 6. Bye!”
“See you then!” I said. Then, I hung up the phone.
I adjusted my top, looking at myself in the mirror. I had to be ready; Arianna would be picking me up any minute now.
I fussed a little before deciding I looked decent. Then I grabbed my purse and waited by the door.
A few minutes later, a silver car pulled into our driveway. I opened the door quickly, before they could even park the car.
“Hey Jordyn!” said Arianna, turning from the drivers seat to look back at me. “This is Lila, she’s a new foreign exchange student from Singapore.”
I smiled at the girl in the passengers seat. She smiled. “Hello!!!”
I smiled back. “Hi! I’m Jordyn.” I said, shaking her hand.
She continued to smile. “Like she said, I’m Lila. I’m going to be here for the rest of the school year and summer. I just got here a week ago!”
“So, how are you liking the good old USA?” I asked.
“So far its been great! Although I would really like to do some sightseeing.”
I smiled again. “Hey, well maybe we could take a little trip sometime.”
Maybe I would make a new friend.
The music was blaring, and I could hardly travel through the sea of people. Finally, I made my way over to the corner, finding a small opening of space.
I took in a deep breath. “I’m ALIVE!” I said dramatically, looking over to find Lila next to me. She also looked overwhelmed.
“This house is HUGE….” She said, looking around. I nodded in agreement. “He invited wayyy to many people…I’m going to text Arianna.”
