Hannah's Perspective
Today has been less than eventful and I am surprisingly ok with that. It may be because I am currently fighting the worst hangover I have experienced since Homecoming night Junior year of college. I have to stop with the fruity and sugary cocktails because they are never kind to me the next day.
Last night was bizarre. I managed to slip König again and go to the club, but when he found me, he didn't make me leave. I just saw him walk in, he spotted me in the crowd then just stood in the corner for a few hours while I continued having fun with my friends. It was very out of character for him.
I am used to him storming in, placing his big hand on my shoulder and guiding me out of the club, but last night was different. He actually let me stay out and have fun. He let me stay out until about one in the morning before he came over to me on the dance floor and told me it was time to go.
Usually his voice comes off stern and honestly rude, but when he told me it was time to go last night, his voice was soft and kind. To be honest, the whole interaction has been reeling in my mind all day because I do not know what brought on the sudden change of character.
I spent the entirety of last year hating König because he never let me do anything fun, he was always so rude and dismissive with me, and he never left my side. While he still doesn't leave my side, these past few days he has been nicer to me and will actually hold somewhat close to a conversation, despite him being an anxious mess the entire time, and now he is letting me stay out at the clubs.
I sit on the sofa in the living room watching the Kardashians on the TV and König sits across from me in the armchair recliner with his nose buried in a book. I couldn't tell you what book it is, the title is written in German, but his face is buried so deep in it, I can only see the top of his head.
Kourtney and Kim are on the TV screen yelling at each other over some trivial issue. I think it is about each other's style aesthetic this time. As the fight dies down on the TV, I hear König chuckle a bit and scoff. My eyes widen in response to this rare occurrence of König actually laughing.
I hit pause on the show and look over. König lowers his book and his blue eyes immediately fall of me.
"I am sorry" I laugh. "I must be dreaming. There is no way in hell I just heard a chuckle come from you."
He sets his book on his lap, closing it but keeping his finger on the page he left off on. "Believe it or not Hannah, I am capable of laughing."
"You have been stuck with me for a year now and I have never heard anything that even resembles a laugh come from you."
"I think you are being a bit dramatic. Plus, it was just a chuckle. Nothing to get all bent out of shape about."
"Bent out of shape about" I mock. "Ok old man. Just admit it. You have been listening to my show and you are enjoying it."
Despite the fact that his face is covered with his hood, I could tell he is smiling. I can see it in his eyes. What the hell is happening? I cannot stand this guy and here we are having a nice conversation and he is smiling! Why does it make me so happy knowing I have made him smile?
"It is intriguing" he admits reluctantly with a deep sigh. "I find it amusing that this one sister is so upset that the other sister is stealing her look. What is there to steal? She wears the most basic things."
