chapter eight
AXEL
Maddie walks beside me in her pink dress, in my jumper, with her heels in my hand.
I glance down at her. Her make up is only slightly smudged, and I know half of it is in the crook my neck. But while her eyeshadow and mascara are slightly messed up, her lip gloss stays intact. She leans down, opening the small purse swaying by her hip and pulls out a pink bottle, spraying herself with perfume. The floral scent surrounds us like a cloud as she puts the bottle away, pulling out a clear tube. Using her phone camera, she applies her lip gloss right after rubbing smeared mascara off her cheek.
I smile slightly at the action. She was on the verge of tears earlier, now she worries about her lip gloss looking pretty. "You never did tell me what you were doing walking the streets in a bright pink dress."
She puts her phone back into her purse, her bare feet making soft padding noises against the concrete below us. "We all went out to the nightclub, bar kind of thing. I was already bored by the time some of the Cobra Kai members came in and started being annoying. I left because the male captain kept looking at me funny. I don't know if it was because I was overdressed, but it made me feel like I looked stupid."
"I like the dress," I say. "What did you say to the captain?"
She smiles before she even speaks, holding in a laugh. "I told him to choke on his own balls."
A laugh leaves her throat as she sees the smile that grows on my face at he words. Her hand moves up to cover her mouth as she snorts into her hand. I shake my head with a smile as she continues chuckling to herself.
"How are you liking Barcelona?" I ask her, looking down at her again, her heels bumping against my thigh as we walk. The jumper she's wearing reaches down to the bottom of her dress, the sleeves long on her
"I like the sun, the beach and the pool," she says. "I really like the architecture as well. The buildings are way prettier then they are in California. And the food is nicer. What about you?"
"It reminds me of Koh Samui."
"Shut up, you've been to Thailand?" she asks me, patting my arm with the back of her hand.
I nod down at her. "And Japan. China, Malaysia, India, every country in Europe."
'I really want to go to France," she says. "Or Greece. And Harry Potter world. I want to go everywhere."
"When I become a sensei to coach teams like mine I will send you plane tickets to tour where we are," I grin down at her, watching her eye me out without looking at me. She rolls her eyes with a smirk.
"Well, when you become a number one sensei don't forget about me while you're touring the entire world," she jokes, scoffing to herself.
"I won't." True. "What do you want to see while you're here?"
"Everything," she says with wide eyes. "I can't name them all. Just everything."
"And end with you fighting for the world tournament of karate?" I say.
