chapter two
MADDIE
Even with blood staining the side of my face, I refuse to fall onto the mat.
The girl I'm fighting spat blood in my face with a nasty smirk when I slashed my knuckles across her cheek, and for that, I've been using her as my punching bag. She's been yelling at me all match, mocking me and taunting me. I run towards her, hooking my heel into the side of her jaw. As she staggers back, I wipe the back of my hand along my cheek where the blood sits, before lunging forward and smearing the blood on her gi while elbowing her in the stomach.
She eventually falls backwards onto the mat, earning a point for Miyagi-Do. So far, only Miguel and I have gotten us points, but as the ref holds my fist over my head, I look right into the camera which broadcasts my glare onto the screens of millions of people all over the world. I buck my chin upwards just enough, pulling my hand out of the refs and walking off the mats.
My name is called out on the loud speakers, praising my performance. I walk towards the rest of my team, being intercepted half way through. Kreese stands in front of me, smiling down with the same grin that's haunted me up until I joined Miyagi-Do.
"Madison Stone," he says, my name sounding like dirt grinding against metal in his mouth. "Congratulations on your match. Although, it wasn't much of a fight."
"Yeah, because I wiped the floor with that bitch," I reply, crossing my arms in front of me.
Kreese chuckles at my words. "It's a shame I lost you. But I can still see that you're using the techniques of a cobra."
"I use them because they help my offence. Not because you taught me them," I tell him. "I don't care if I'm impressing you, I'm not here for you. You already have a female captain."
"And think about how strong my team would be if I had two?" Kreese steps forward. "Two ruthless fighters. One who strikes first, and one who never gets touched by the opponent."
I raise an eyebrow at him, biting the inside of my cheek.
"You're team does nothing for you," he continues. "Half of them aren't even close to the skills my cobras hold. You and Tory are alike in many ways. Especially in the fact that they think you're a traitor because you trained with me after saying you were loyal to Miyagi-Do. They're just waiting for a small sign that you're only here to make them loose. Such as you talking to me."
My head cocks to the side slightly as I look up at him. Kreese will never understand the damage he caused me. How much he fucked with my head. I lost the trust with half my team, I lost the trust I have in myself. I finally got away from him, and here I am. He's telling me the same things he told me that I fell for. Kreese and Cobra Kai was like a jail. I made it out alive, but just barely. He sent me into an emotional trainwreck within myself. Whenever I say I've forgotten everything he did to me, I'm lying through my teeth.
Kreese has trapped my in a never-ending chain, and if I don't get away from him now, I never will.
I remember the fighter I was before I was strung into Cobra Kai. I was defense, and only attacked when I saw an opening. Now, I don't even feel like myself. It's the rage that is all consuming on the mat. I strike even if I don't have an opening, aiming to inflict as much damage as I can.
