"I hope you will fit in your wedding dress. Do you have a planner?"asked Brytal
Not really. And yes I am making adjustments to a.....I am not supposed to mention this now,"she whispered 'my groom.".... to fit me."
"You will call us if you need anything?"
"I will."
After a chatty meal, Karie and Brent left.
Others sat in the table room nursing drinks.
A loud crash of lightning lit the night sky and then a huge boom.
"Oh my it is going to rain tonight,"said Chrystal.
"I hate driving in the rain,"said Brytal.
Diam switched on the news.
"I love this," Brytal kicked off her shoes and put her feet on Jorgeen's lap. He encompassed them with his arms.
"I miss this place Diam. You haven't changed anything much. Same old carpet,"said Brytal.
"You should come visit. Which movie do you guys want to watch?"
"Why don't you put on DStv. Scroll to find a movie,"suggested Chrystal.
He put on the DSTV and they settled for a romantic movie.
They watched. Diam moved closer to Chrystal and sat next to her as she drunk a cider. Diam drank his beer. Also Jorgeen nursed a beer. Brytal drank a punch.
They watched movie for a while. It was about a Mexican restaurant and romance. It was interesting though before long they were interrupted by Brytal's snores.
"Oh dear we better be going,"said Jorgeen rising up. A loud thunder clap resounded and fresh patter of rain resumed.
"Will you drive in a dark rainy night? Plus you are drunk,"asked Diam." I can offer a spare bedroom. Chrystal you will spend the night too. I will not risk driving in this weather."
Chrystal agreed.
"We will manage,"said Jorgeen.
The task of waking Brytal was arduous. When she finally awoke she flatly refused to go. The idea of a spare bedroom was more appealing.
"That's settled then."
Jorgeen helped Brytal to the spare guest bedroom.
Chrystal watched Diam.
"Like what you see?" He smiled.
"You"
"I loved tonight's dinner love. It gets lonely here sometimes."
"It is a big house."
"Let me get you another cider then we can call it a night."
He went to the cabinet and poured both of them drinks.
She shivered. A cold wind blew from the open window. Little rain droplets settled on her arms. She got up and shut the window against the dark night.
" Get away from the window Chrystal. Remember the lightining.."
She jumped back and sat down. She put on her sweater. She rubbed her arms.
"So cold..."
"Here have your drink."
He turned up the heater.
"Better?"
"Yeah. Is that the portrait of your father?" She pointed at the portrait hanging by the fireside. There was resemblance in strong jaw and dark thick hair.
"Yes. He was a good man. A staunch christian. He preached some Sundays at local church. He was a doctor by profession. He built this house."
"You used the term 'was'"
"He passed away a year ago. My mother still misses him. When she was twenty she met him at a hotel. It was love at first sight. She didn't get along with Brytal though."
"Oh ,sorry."
"It's okay." He yawned. "It is already 9.30 pm. We ought to go to bed."
He led her to another guest room and found her some pajamas.
"You sure you want to sleep alone?"
"I will be okay."
"I am just across the corridor incase you need anything. Sleep well."
"Goodnight Diam."
He gave her a sweet peck and closed the door.
