"Montie dear, you'll be late for school if you are not down for breakfast in two minutes!"
"Mom, you know I hate when you call me that!" I walk down our stairwell into the living room and round the corner into the kitchen, "Also I am right here no need to shout." I take a seat in the breakfast nook. Dad was sitting at his usual seat next to me reading the newspaper, I kiss his cheek, "Good morning, daddy"
"Good morning, darling. Can you believe it's your first day of junior year?"
"I can actually." I smirk at him as he gives me a side eye gaze. "Thank you, Nellie" Nellie was our maid we have had since I was a baby. She did everything for us, cooked, cleaned, drove me to school , and over all an emotional rock for us all.
"Yes Nellie, thank you. You have truly outdone yourself again with these crepes" my mother gushes. Nellie nods her head in gratitude. My mother and father go on with their typical conversation about what house they sold and what lawsuit they won. I sat in my little corner of the nook and thought about what today would hold. My thought was cut short from my mothers cell phone ringing, "Oh hello Meredith." I can only assume it's mother's friend, Meredith Sinclair. They of course, like everyone in this "elite" circle, go way back to their school years at Abbott Academy. Also not to mention the country club, the PTO, and book club. "I see, well I'm sure there is nothing for him to worry about" I nudge her elbow as a sign to elaborate to me what she was talking about. She swats me away. "I'll inform Montgomery as soon as I'm off the phone. She will love to show him around." I roll my eyes and fall back into my seat. The Sinclairs had an adopted a boy from London. His name was like Albert or something, not really sure. We met briefly at the country club midsummer. Not gonna lie, I was intoxicated. She hangs up the phone and looks at me with a smile.
"What?" I groan.
"That was Meredith, she wanted to ask if you would feel comfortable showing Alexander around today at school?"
"Are you asking or telling? Because if you are asking I really-"
"I told her of course it would be no problem, and it'd just be darling for you two to become friends." She cut me off and smiled at me again.
"Great mom, yeah I would love too." I roll my eyes as I stand up to grab my bag. "Nellie, no need to take me to school today Lilybeth's driver is picking me up." I walk out the door grabbing my things as I shout my I love you's. I pop open my umbrella as Lilybeth's black car pulls up to the front walk. The tinted back seat window rolls down to reveal her brown hair and soft smile. Lilybeth had been my friend since, well forever. We had done it all together. From sharing crayons, clothes, then booze. She was my right hand girl and I was hers.
"Hi friend, ready for the fabulous first day we are about to have?"
"Absolutely not! Wait until I tell you what my mother has signed me up for and of course I'm dragging you along." I say as I slide in the back seat beside her. "You know the Sinclairs right? Well you know how they adopted that Adam kid?" she nods. "Well my mother signed me up to be his guide for today. Lilybeth you know I love charity work, but I also don't want to spend my first day back to school worrying about some foreign kid."
"Maybe it won't be that bad M." That's Lilybeth, always so warm and welcoming to anything or anyone. She had a pure heart and a good outlook on everything. Don't get me wrong, she can still be a bitch, but her kindness was what made her who she was.
The ride to school was about ten minutes from our house. Abbott was right on the outskirts of the city. Lilybeth and I sat and talked about last years school drama in hopes that it would be better this year. Of course we had kept up with all the new drama over the summer on "The Courtyard." A social media app where everyone types out their incites of what happens throughout the day. Many people get blasted on there for the craziest things. The car pulls into the black iron gates, and passes through the front yard where other students walked towards the front of the school. Her driver stops in front of the large concrete steps leading up to the front door. He hops out and opens the driver side back door. Lilybeth and I get out grabbing our bags. I adjust my school issued maroon and black plaid skirt. It honestly felt good to be back at Abbott Academy. The tall bell tower chimes. "Come on!" Lilybeth grabs my hand and drags me up the steps.
Inside students were scrambling everywhere, lockers were slamming, and mumbles from the PA overhead were slightly overstimulating. We walk over to our lockers where Branson and the other Lacrosse jocks were leaned up talking. I wrap my arm around Branson's waist, and he turns around with a smile. I lean in to give him a kiss, but he puts an arm out to stop me, "Woah babe, not here." He nods his head towards the three other boys behind him.
"Well, I don't really care. They know I'm with you." Branson and I had been dating for a little over a year. I would like to think we were definitely the "it" couple of the school. Not much had happened between the two of us. Well besides the one night after a cocktail party in the Vergils house, we had a steamy make out session in there kitchen pantry, but that's really about all. "I know for a fact you're not embarrassed of me." I smirk, while fixing his tie.
"No definitely not. It's just they say I'm like a simp or whatever." He runs his finger through his hair. I laugh. "Hey, who is that?" Branson motions over to the front office door. A pale, lanky, and blonde guy walks out looking lost. I recognized him immediately.
"Hey, um Albert!" I shout. Hes still looking down at his schedule. I shout again, "Hey!" He finally looks up. I motion for him to come over to our group. "Albert right?"
"No, very much not. It's Alexander, Alex if you like."
