I plop myself down in the ugly chairs in my mom's office. I sigh. She peeks over her computer screen at me. "Something on your mind dear?"
"Yes." I laugh. "It's a lot, you might need to write it down." she slides her chair over so that she can see me fully.
"That good huh?"
"Oh, Mom you have no idea," I inform her of the drama that had unfolded in my life the past forty-eight hours. Lots of laughs, head shakes, gasps, and curse words were used between the two of us.
"Anyway, how was your day Mom? Sale any houses?" I tease.
"Well not nearly as eventful as yours," she laughs. "How am I supposed to top all that?" We both share a laugh. "No houses sold today, I've actually been planning the fall formal. I signed myself up for the planning committee."
"How kind of you mother."
"Well ya know, I just thought what else do I have to do?" she says sarcastically.
"I'm going to call LilyBeth for some much-needed retail therapy." I walk out of her office and up the stairs to my room. I call LilyBeth and place my phone on speaker while I change my clothes.
"Hello." She answers.
"Get dressed and pick me up, we need to talk."
"Yes, yes we do." She giggles as she hangs up.
Before I knew it Nellie was yelling up the stairs for me to come down and that LilyBeth was here. I ran down the steps and out the door to her driver's car. I open the back door and sit beside her. As we head towards our favorite shops the gossip begins. "Guess what I saw today?" she asks.
"There is really no telling."
"Paris Franklin and our friend Alexander, chatting it up at school today. "
"He might be your friend, but he is def not mine." I laugh.
"Well, he's definitely not my friend either, not after the phone call I got from him last night."
"Do tell." I swat her shoulder.
"He literally chewed me out for telling you the truth. I gave him the opportunity to tell you and he didn't so I did." she laughed. "After he confessed his dirty little secret to me, I tried to tell him it would be much better hearing it from you."
"You know he had the nerve this morning to try and apologize to me?"
"You clearly did not accept it, right?"
"Oh no babe. I sure did not. And then Branson tried to walk me home and explain to me what happened. He barely made it out the front gate of the school before he blamed me for all this and that I should be sorry."
"Honey, no."
"That's what I said. He cared about Alexander's feelings. He clearly cares more about him, seventy-two hours in, than he did our whole relationship."
"What a jerk! Maybe you should date older guys who are mature." she laughs
"Not a bad idea." I laugh along with her. As cold as I was to the whole situation, it did hurt a bit. I spent a long time with him and cared for him. He truly shit it all away. We pull up to our favorite little store downtown. Her driver opens our door and we get out. I walked in and immediately started going through the racks of clothes.
"You know my mom is already planning the fall formal?"
"Really? Already?" she pauses. "Well, I guess fall break is right around the corner."
"Yes, thank God."
"Since school will be out do you think he will come home from college?"
"Who are you talking about?" I give her a puzzled look.
"Only the hottest college guy we know." She pretends to faint. "Rigby Sinclair."
"Oh my gosh." I roll my eyes in laughter. Rigby Sinclair was the Sinclair's oldest son and their only legitimate child. He was very good looking and he definitely put the sin in Sinclair. He was away at Harvard doing elite family things.
"You know he's hot, M. You cannot deny it."
"Not denying, because you are right." I smile. "And as far as him attending, I guess we will just have to wait and find out." I wink at her.
