The soft glow of the setting sun filtered through the window, casting warm hues of red and pink across the room. The air was crisp with the promise of winter, a reminder of the changing seasons and the fleeting nature of time. I couldn't shake the feeling that the days ahead would be filled with a sense of coldness and melancholy.
Lying side by side on my bed, Kaylo and I stared up at the ceiling, lost in our own thoughts. Had anyone ever seen him vulnerable, witnessed the tears he might have shed behind closed doors? Kaylo always seemed so strong and put together, like nothing could ever faze him. Maybe, just maybe, he had a softer side that he kept hidden from the world. But then again, who knows? Maybe he was just really good at keeping his emotions under wraps.
"Kay, you can share anything with me that crosses your mind, whatever bothers you. Any ideas, thoughts, or something that you want to do," I reassured him, my voice gentle as I spoke. I turned my gaze towards the window, allowing the fading light to wash over me as I waited for his response.
He shifted beside me, rolling onto his side to meet my gaze. His face looked serious, his eyes caught the sunlight just right, making them glow all golden and intense. He briefly nodded, like he was saying, "Yeah, I get it. Seve"
I heard the familiar voices of my parents drifting up from downstairs, signaling their return home. With a gentle smile, I turned to him, eager to introduce him to my family, "Mom and Dad are back," I announced, excitement lacing my voice. "Let me introduce you to them," I suggested, hoping to lift his spirits.
But to my surprise, his expression remained somber as he shook his head. "No, Seve, I will go home now," he said quietly, his tone carrying a sense of finality.
I furrowed my brow, puzzled by his sudden decision. "And how will you leave the house?" I questioned, knowing that the only exit was through the main door, where my parents would be waiting.
"I will bail through the window," he replied simply, a distant look in his eyes. It brought back memories of the first time he had sneaked into my house.
"Kaylo, nooo," I gasped,
"I don't want to meet anybody," he confessed, his discomfort evident in his voice.
"But-" I began, my protests cut short by his plea.
"Just please, Seve,"
He begged, tugging at my heartstrings.
I was going to say something but decided against it. Arguing wouldn't help, so I got up and headed to the window. I flung it open, motioning for him to bail.
