"I couldn't control myself," kaylo whispered, his voice barely audible above the din of the room. "I just... I had to make him stop." His grip relaxed under my touch, his breaths came in ragged gasps, his chest rising and falling with the weight of his emotions. Tears welled in his eyes as he looked down at his father's prone form, a mixture of anger, sorrow, and confusion swirling within him.
I squeezed his wrists gently, offering what little comfort I could amidst the turmoil that surrounded us. "I know," I replied softly, "Let's get out of here."
The uncle approached his father's battered form on the ground, a malicious grin twisting his features as he knelt before him. "Well, well, well," he taunted, his voice dripping with contempt. "Looks like the mighty leader of our family isn't quite so mighty after all. What a sorry sight you are, lying there like a wounded dog."
His father's eyes burned with rage as he struggled to rise, but the uncle pushed him back down with a cruel laugh. "Face it, brother," he continued, his tone mocking. "Your precious son hates you, your enemies are closing in, and your grand plans for the future lie in ruins. What a legacy you're leaving behind."
I tried to pull Kaylo away from the scene, but suddenly Kai's grip on his hand stopped us in our tracks. We turned to look at him, uncertainty flickering in our eyes as he paused for a moment, his gaze fixed on Kaylo before speaking something in his native, which I couldn't fully grasp. My eyes darted between him and Kaylo, and suddenly, the uncle's voice sliced through the tension, drawing my attention back to the scene. My heart skipped a beat as I watched him raise his gun, aiming it directly at Kaylo's father's head. And then, just as quickly as it had begun, the standoff took an unexpected turn as Kai released Kaylo's hand and gently pushed us back.
"We should get out of here," My voice barely above a whisper. "Let me help you find rest, before there's nothing left." I grasped his wrist, pulling him along as we fled away from the chaos. His hand, warm and steady, wrapped around mine. Through dimly lit corridors and empty hallways, we made our escape, moving quickly but quietly, our hot breaths mingling in the air. Finally, we emerged into the cool night air, Hand in hand, we slipped through the gate and out into the quiet streets beyond.
Under the soft moonlight, I stole a glance at him, as we dashed down the streets, The cool breeze whispered through the night, ruffling our hair as we hurried along. When we reached a secluded spot far from the turmoil, we finally slowed our frantic pace, allowing ourselves a moment of respite. Panting, we caught our breaths, the adrenaline slowly ebbing away. His chest rose and fell with each labored breath, his hair tousled by the wind as he gazed up at me, for a moment, time seemed to stand still as we caught our breath, our hearts pounding in sync with the rhythm of the night.
"Why did you do it?"
"Because I promised you," I replied, "Even if the whole world turns against you and you're left all alone, I'll be there to protect you, no matter what." I reached out to him, my fingertips grazing the soft strands of hair that fell across his forehead. His eyes, dark pools reflecting the moon's gentle glow, softened as he gazed back at me, a kaleidoscope of emotions flickering within their depths.
