Chapter 20 - Helen's past comes back to life

They were standing in line at the cashiers station when suddenly the hairs on the back of Natalie's neck stood up. She quickly but discreetly looked around and at first she didn't see anything other than other shoppers but something told her something wasn't right.

She whispered to the other two, "Stay close to me. Someone is watching us. Don't look, Helen. I'm going to text Thor to send some men. We just need to stay out in the open. Let's go to the food court and get something to drink while we wait for them to get here." Natalie told them as she texted Thor.

"We are in the mall and I think someone is watching us. We are going to the food court. Please send men." Natalie hit send and immediately got a reply.

"Stay put. I love you." Thor's message said.

Tasha knew from experience to stay close to Natalie but not so close that she wouldn't be able to react without hurting her if someone were to try to grab her.

As soon as they paid for Tasha's coat, Natalie told Helen. "Just be casual. Try not to let on that we are aware of them. Let's just go get something to drink. The men should be here in about half an hour to forty five minutes or so."

"Why are they watching us?" Helen asked, trying to keep the panic out of her voice and talking softly.

"Well, the shops we have been into are not exactly cheap places to shop so they probably realize that we are not everyday shoppers. They probably were just planning on following us to our car and then would have tried to rob us but they might also be thinking that we could be worth more than what we are carrying in our wallets and might try to kidnap us for ransom. Man, I would love to be able to see the looks on their faces when they see Thor." Natalie grinned at her.

Helen smiled weakly back at her. "So you think it's more than just one person?" Helen asked.

"I'm not sure. I don't see any one person staring or paying us any undue attention but that may be because they are hiding out of sight and that makes me even more concerned and it leads me to think it's more than just one person. All I know is that the hairs on the back of my neck stood straight up and I can feel them watching." Natalie said as they got in line to get some soft drinks.

They got their drinks and went to sit at a table near the wall, keeping their backs to the wall so that they could see if anyone tried to approach them. They sat and people watched and Natalie tried to keep them calm but she could tell that both of them were very nervous. "Just drink slowly so that it lasts. Tasha, has Leon said what he wants for his birthday?" Natalie asked, trying to distract them.

"He really wants Joe Jensen to send him approval for at least one of the designs he sent him drawings for. Prez has already approved his design to expand the clubhouse. Now they just have to wait until the weather warms up so that they can start building.

Helen, I know it would mean the world to Leon if you would share with him your ideas on what you want in your new home. He wants so much to build you the house of your dreams." Tasha said.

"Oh that's just so sweet. I know how I want individual rooms and how I would like the flow in certain areas to go but then I get stuck." Helen said. "I do know I want the laundry room to be back near the bedrooms next to a big linen closet and to have a specific place to store things like the vacuum cleaner and cleaning supplies.

Why do most developers think that they need to put that stuff right off the kitchen? No one changes their clothes in there and bed linens are bulky and can be heavy when you've got more than one bed to strip.

I've never once had a reason to run the vacuum in the kitchen and the only things I need to wash from the kitchen and dining room, I can carry in one hand to the washer. But there needs to be a place to store a broom, mop and kitchen cleaning supplies too. I'd love a bigger walk-in pantry so that I can store small appliances instead of having to keep them all out on the counter."
