The snow that had stopped just before he had left to go to the store, started up again with a vengeance just as he came out of the grocery store for the second time that day. The crowds had thinned out but then the shelves in the store were almost empty of the basic necessities. There was a big sign on the door now, saying they were closing early to allow their employees to get home safely. Apparently word had gotten out that the weather was about to get worse.

As he climbed into the SUV to head back to the Allen's, he turned on the engine and then the radio. The announcer repeated several times that almost a foot of snow had hit St. Louis in the past hour and it was still coming down as well as headed their way. He decided to call Natalie to make sure that Dr. Allen was home. His Mercedes might not make it if he waited to come later.

Thor pulled out his cell phone and called Natalie's phone. "Please tell me you are on your way back?" She answered the call.

"I am but I was just checking that the doctor is home?" Thor asked.

"Yes. He got home about half an hour ago. Where are you?" Natalie asked.

"The two little girls that I rescued ate half the bag of dinner rolls I had bought so I stopped back at the grocery store to pick up some more. I hope you don't need anything more from here because they are closing early to allow their employees to get home before the snow hits." Thor said.

"No. I just need you back here safe and sound. I've already called Prez and told him not to send anyone out tonight. We'll just have to stay here tonight. It's not safe for anyone to be on the road in what is coming. We've been watching it on TV and it's about to get bad, Thor. Please drive safely but come straight back here as soon as you can." Natalie said worriedly.

"I will. Don't worry. I have chains if I need them." Thor said.

"Babe, you don't understand. This storm has a freezing wind to it. To be out in it trying to do something like putting chains on your tires could end up costing you your fingers. Just please drive safely but get here as soon as you can." Natalie said, trying not to panic.

She had seen a storm like this once before, the second year she had moved to the east coast. It had claimed the lives of a lot of people who had been caught unprepared and had tried to drive in it or had been caught out in the open.

They hung up and Thor put his SUV in gear. The wind had picked up quite a bit and it had not only snow but ice in the freezing slush that blew at the windshield of the SUV. Natalie had been right. It would be dangerous to be out in this right now and he was thankful that the heater worked. Thor had to run the wiper blades on high but they seemed to be freezing to the windshield as they squeaked back and forth across the glass even with the defroster on.

By the time he pulled into the Allen's street, he could barely see three feet in front of the car. He was driving slowly but steadily and breathed a big sigh of relief when he was finally able to turn into their driveway. He parked as close to the front door as he could get and hurried to take the groceries out of the back of the car then hurried to the house.

Natalie must have been watching for him and she nearly made him drop all the packages he was carrying as she opened the door and he stepped inside as she threw her arms around his neck and began kissing him all over his very cold face.

"Baby, I'm loving the affection but do you mind letting me get through the door and closing it before my butt cheeks freeze?" He teased her.

"Of course. I'm sorry. I'm just so happy you are finally here. I was about to go look for you. I thought you must have broken down somewhere." Natalie said as she finally let him go and began to help him with the packages.
