29. Where is Yeon ?

Flashback

''Y/n, did you hear ?'' The forest spirit asked y/n who was swinging on the wooden swing hanging from a massive tree.
''What ?''
''It's about the nine tailed fox, your friend. He fought with a bunch of guys.'' Y/n's feet stepped on the ground as she stopped the swing.
''Again ?'' The forest spirit nodded. Without any other thought y/n rushed towards the top of the mountain, where she found Rang who turned his back on her before she could see his face.

''How long are you going to stand facing your back to me ?''
''What are you doing here ?'' He questioned back.
''Why ask when you already know. Did you get in a fight again ?''
''Those damn spirits can't keep their mouth shut.'' Rang murmured to himself.
''Are you hurt ? Why do you always have to get in trouble ? We already have enough negative attention on us. Can't you just avoid doing this ? I heard those guys were badly injured. They're mere humans, they could've died.''

Rang finally turned around furiously,
''They were talking nonsense about you ! Do you expect me to stay quiet after hearing whatever-- I tried not to pay mind to them and walk away until they were talking about me. But I will not just let anyone say anything about you. I will continue to get into fights like such if they dare to do this again. I dont care if they get hurt or die, they deserve it.'' Y/n without any word, took steps closer to Rang, almost making him forget his own temper.
Tracing her finger near the wound on the corner of his lips, ''Why are you always covered in scars ?''

Had she seen him before, she wouldn't have framed her words like that. She wouldn't have asked him all that.
''This is why I wasn't facing you. You worry too much about everyone and everything.'' He said not exactly meeting eyes with y/n.
''But Rang, im serious about not getting involved with any of the villagers. If we continue to fight back to everything that they say and do, it might lead to a treacherous situation. Someone will surely get hurt, either them or you. And I don't want that.''
''Alright, i'll try not to react much. But if they come looking for me to test my patience, then it's not my fault.''

Y/n took his hand in hers, wiping off the blood on his knuckles.
''I know what the villagers think and speak of me, I dont care about it because they dont know me. They're vary of us because they think we would harm them but in this situation one would either remove the threat or continue living in the dread.
Im afraid they might do the former one day.'' She looked up at Rang,
''We no longer have much to lose. All we have is each other.''

Present time, 1938

''Rang, are you alright ?'' Yeo hee rushed inside the room making y/n take a step away from Rang reminding they weren't alone.
''I'll quickly check on the gisaengs. There's a chance he gave them a scare too.'' Y/n told Rang as she sprinted out of the room.
''What are you doing here ? Didn't you hear y/n when she asked you to leave ? You could have died if you stayed here.'' Rang spoke in a calm manner but Yeo hee's tears kept falling looking at him.
''I couldn't just leave knowing you were in danger.''

Rang sighed, ''You're just adding to your wish list by making me indebted in some or the other way.''
''You can clear all the debt in one go.''
''How ?'' Yeo hee slowly stepped forward, closer to Rang who was slightly taken aback and confused by her actions. But it soon became clear when she came close enough to barely leave any space in between their faces. She leaned in, and if Rang hadn't turned his head the other side, they would've kissed.

A tear trickled down Yeo hee's cheek as she stepped back with a bitter smile.
''Foxes only love one person their whole lifetime, Yeo hee.'' Rang gave her a meaningful look.
''Is that person by your side right now ?''
''I'll be waiting for her no matter how long it takes.''
''I dont know about mermaids but I too believe in loving only one person throughout my life. And i'll be waiting too.''

Rang increased the distance between the two of them as y/n walked in the room. She glanced at the two feeling the tension in the air.
''What happened-- ?'' Y/n couldn't complete her question seeing the thread in Rang's hand getting pulled.
''They're coming back.'' Y/n and Rang synced. When the closet door opened unexpectedly, the couple anticipated-ly looked at Hong joo and Eun ho who came out of it. Their eyes looked for the older gumiho who was nowhere to be seen.
''Where's Yeon ?''
''The door is closed.'' Hong joo shifted the clothes in the closet to find nothing.

''You left him there. Why ? Why are you the only one back ?'' Rang vented on Hong joo.
''We came together !''
''Rang, she looks as clueless as us. There's another person who's not here.'' Y/n calmed the gumiho and focused on what needed attention at the moment.
''Cheon Moo yeong. This is his doing. He did this on purpose. I need to go, Yeon's life is in peril.'' Rang took a step only to get stopped by Yeo hee who was still there.

''Rang, you cant go. You were here and your life was still at stake. Heaven knows what will happen if you go there to save your brother.'' She panicked. Rang was about to retort when y/n spoke,
''You should go Rang.''
''What ? How can you lead him to his death ?'' Yeo hee looked at y/n as if she was speaking a different language.
''Because I believe he'll come back unscathed. He is a nine tailed fox who's powerful as well as clever. He is capable enough of giving Moo yeong a tough fight and bringing Yeon back. That is why, im with you on this Rang. Go and bring back Yeon with you. He needs you.''

A/N

Do you guys like love triangle tropes ? Im a big fan of a good love triangle. Maybe i'll try writing a ff more focused on love triangle for a character.
