Carmen's POV

"Hi, I'd like two large iced coffees, with a splash of oat milk and vanilla please!" Billie says, leaning her head out of the window at the drive through.

"Will that be it for you?" The employee asks through the speaker.

"Yep, that's it!" She says again, reaching for her wallet on the console.

"Perfect, that'll be $7.15 at the next window!"

"Holy shit, for two coffees?!" Billie exclaims, pulling around to the drive through window.

"You act like you aren't a multi-millionaire." I joke, looking over at her.

We both look shady as hell. We're wearing hoodies and sunglasses with the hoods pulled over our heads, in hopes of not attracting paparazzi.

Billie pulls her card out of her wallet just as the drive through window slides open.

"Your total today is $7.15, will that be cash or card, ma'am?" A young female employee asks, looking into Billie's car.

"Card, thank you." Billie says, handing her credit card to the girl.

The window slides closed as the girl runs Billie's card on the cash register.

"This better be the best fucking iced coffee ever." Billie says, leaning back in her seat.

"Thank you for buying, baby." I say, smiling at her.

"Anything for you." Billie places her hand on my thigh and gives it a light squeeze.

The window slides open again.

"Here's your card and your receipt, and those drinks are almost done!" The girl exclaims, the tone in her voice sounding a little different than before.

I notice that a handful of other employees are gathered behind the girl, all staring at us with wide eyes.

"Also, not trying to be creepy or invasive or anything, but are you guys Billie and Carmen?" She asks nervously.

I laugh awkwardly and look at Billie.

"Damn, did the disguises not work?" Billie jokes with the girl.

"Oh my god I love your music. I knew that voice sounded familiar!" The girl says, obviously fangirling a little.

"Aww, you're adorable! Thank you so much!" Billie says, genuinely smiling from ear to ear.

"I love you two together!" A male employee shouts from behind the girl.

The girl hands us both our drinks, and Billie puts them in the cupholder. Before we pull off, Billie grabs some cash from her wallet and hands it to the girl.

"You guys have a great day and stay safe out there, okay?" Billie says, flashing them one last smile.

We pull out of the drive through as the girl looks shocked by the cash tip she just received.

"Damn how much did you give her?" I ask Billie as she rolls up her window.

"I don't know, like $600?" She says casually, pulling back onto the main road home.

"Weren't you just bitching about the coffee costing seven bucks?" I laugh, taking a sip from my iced coffee.

"Carmen, I'm a multi-millionaire." She says, shooting me a smirk.

"You're so annoying." I scoff.

We arrive back at the house pretty quickly. Billie insists on opening the passenger side door for me, and we head inside.

"Do you want me to help you write your statement, or do you wanna be on your own?" Billie asks, unlocking the front door.

"I wanna try to write it myself first." I reply, taking a sip from my coffee.

I feel ready to write everything out. I have been suppressing the memories of everything so aggressively, and I feel like finally writing down everything will bring me some sort of closure.

Billie leads me into Finneas' home studio.

"Do you wanna sit here with me? I'm gonna try to get somewhere with that song I was writing the other night." Billie flops herself down on the office chair in the studio.

"Yeah, sure." I say, sitting on the couch across the room.

"Let me know if you need anything, mama. I'm so proud of you." Billie says, flashing me a soft smile.

She tosses me a notebook and pen from the desk, and slides a pair of headphones over her ears, ready to drift off into her own world of music.

I wish I was writing a song instead of an impact statement.
