Chapter XVII

The day has arrived, the day I finally come face to face with my past and my perfect choice of vehicle is the car I left in. The one I stole on the day I left.

I smirk as I make my way down to where the cars are stored, bags in hand and my friends on my tail. I met in private with Mr. Fowyer before leaving and discussed in further depth on what exactly I am meant to be doing with the pack of wolves, obviously to train them but why now? Why not when the rogues were first attacking. He explained that as much as his patience is running thin with my "sassy attitude" as he put it, he still understands my feelings towards them and held off from sending me as much as he could. Apparently they had been asking for help for a few months now and he made up excuses the entire time, for me, and also because he can't stand their arrogance but that's not the point.

Keep telling yourself that Nyx chimes in.

Bitch, I will tell myself whatever I want.

Uh huh, right I can just feel the eye roll.

Choosing to ignore her, I open the door to the backseats and chuck my bags in, Daisy copying my actions as she wanted to ride with me so of course I let her. Trevor was not as pleased with that since he got stuck with his brother for the drive up, leaving Viola and Mikey to ride together. I send Trev an apologetic look as his face contorts in pain listening to his brother drone on, he'll have a fun ride that's for sure.

I walk around to the drivers side and take a seat, once everyone's settled I peel out of the driveway and watch in the rearview mirror as the school grows smaller and smaller until it's completely out of site. The only real home I've known for the past two years and I'm driving away from it to help a pack who abused and abandoned me. You could say I'm some sort of intelligent. Though this is when it starts to feel all too real so I look to Daisy as an attempt to distract myself, turning on the radio and starting a deep conversation with her about the recent books we've read.

I relish in her comfort as we grow closer.

The woods thicken and any signs of possible human life fall to a zero as the strong smell of pack lands envelope us, I feel eyes watching from deep in the trees, I assume they're the border patrol keeping an eye on rogue activities. A large grey boulder on the side of the road is the only indication of our entry across their border, the gravel crunches and shifts under our tyers as we drive in the direction of the pack house. Memories flooding my mind along the way. Drowning me.

I feather light touch pulls me from my daze, I glance down to see Daisy placing her soft, slender hand onto my forearm bringing me immediate comfort.

"You'll be okay, we're all here for you no matter what" she says sincerely while sending me a smile of pure sunshine, warmth radiating from her.

I smile back, her words giving me strength "thank you, Daisy, for everything".

Eventually reaching the pack house I notice a group of people waiting outside, watching us closely as we park our cars. I spot one in particular who lingers his gaze on my car which leaves me chuckling to myself.

I wonder if he's noticed.

We all step out of our cars in sync, as though we had rehearsed it, and grab our bags out from where we left them carelessly thrown in the back seats and make our way over to the group. Deep breaths Jamilah, deep breaths. The smell of them alone has my wolf on edge as I'm having to push her down. Deep breaths.
