May 1996 - Hogwarts

I sat in the common room studying with Hermione for the upcoming O.W.L. when Harry came storming through the door in a panic.

"Harry," I said. "What happened? What's going on?" He slowly took a seat.

"I'm sorry, Grace," he said. "I think I've ruined everything."

"What happened?"

"Your dad will never forgive me. He may even make us break up."

"Harry, what happened?"

"I-uh...I-he...we-we were..." I couldn't make sense of him. It seemed like he couldn't even make sense of himself. He had been going to see my dad every day to work on controlling his mind to Voldemort. Every day he came back tired. He didn't want to talk about it.

"He hates me," Harry said. "Especially after today. Grace, he's going to put an end to us." I scoffed a little.

"Harry," I said. "Look I don't care how badly you've pissed him off. He's not going to put an end to us. Trust me."

"No, I'm sure of it."

"Harry, he won't. He told me himself that he won't get involved with my personal life."

"Really?" I held his hand.

"Really," I assured him. I was right. My dad couldn't break us up. But ever since I had cast the Patronus charm for the first time, my mind had been set on the one person who just might be able to.

All of the fifth years gathered in the great hall to take the Theory Of Charms O.W.L. Umbridge stood on the stage as the pendulum swing back and forth behind her. Hermione raced vigorously through her test while Ron was nearly asleep. Harry seemed distracted as he had many times throughout the year. Suddenly there was a booming noise coming from outside the door that caused all of us to stop our exam and look behind. When we heard it again, Umbridge walked promptly down the great hall, her heels echoing behind her. We all watched as she opened the door, and immediately, a yellow spark flew around her face. It then raced into the great hall and exploded into a firework. Then there were a few seconds of down time as we all exchanged glances, wondering what was going on. Then in a flurry, Fred and George came rushing in on their brooms. They threw massive fireworks around as they tossed all the tests in the air. The room filled with colorful smoke as they sent some fireworks to chase around and terrorize some Slytherins. Laughter and excitement filled the great hall as Fred and George wrapped up their final prank. They cast one more up into the air and it exploded into countless fireworks. Then out of the flurries, a dragon formed, much to Umbridge's terror. The dragon chased her right out of the great hall and hit the wall so hard, all of her educational decrees that had been posted on the wall fell off and shattered.

Fred and George flew right past her and outside the castle, throwing fireworks behind them as all of the students raced outside to watch them fly away from Hogwarts, cheering them on. They were only doing what all of us wanted to. As the students, and many teachers, showered the twins in applause, I turned around to see Harry had fallen backward on the ground. He looked like he was blacking in and out. I bent over to look at him while he breathed heavily.

"Sirius," he said. "Sirius, he's in trouble. Voldemort's got him." Harry grabbed the three of us and dragged us into the castle.

"Harry, are you sure?" I asked as we made our way to Umbridge's office.

"I saw it," Harry said. "It's just like with Mr. Weasley. It's the same door I've been dreaming about for months. Only I couldn't remember where I'd seen it before. Sirius said that Voldemort was after something. Something he didn't have the last time. And it's in the department of mysteries."

"Harry, please just listen," Hermione said, stopping him. "What if Voldemort meant for you to see this? What if he's only hurting Sirius because he's trying to get to you?"

"What if he is?" Harry said. "I'm just supposed to let him die? Hermione, he's the only family I've got left."

"What do we do?" Ron asked.

"We'll have to use the floo network," Harry said, racing up the stairs.

"Umbridge has the chimneys under surveillance," Hermione said.

"Not all of them," Harry added. We broke into Umbridge's office and Harry prepared to use the chimney. "Alert the order if you can," Harry said.

"Are you mental?" Ron said. "We're going with you."

"It's too dangerous," Harry said. I knelt down beside him.

"When are you going to get it into your head?" I asked him. "We're in this together."

"That, you are," we heard a voice say in the doorframe. We turned around swiftly to see Umbridge.
