The only good thing that had occurred since Lyria had returned from the pillager town was that there was a cake stand full of cake when she walked into the tavern one evening. Lyria loved cake and would do almost anything to get her hands on the sugary substance. She sat down at the table to cut a slice for herself. 'Mmm... finally something that I have to enjoy.' She said to herself as began munching on the pink raspberry cake. Unknown to her was that Fractureverse Hilda had been watching her the whole time from the other side of the room. As soon as she saw her eat the cake, she got up and went over to Lyria. "Enjoying that, are you?" Asked Fractureverse Hilda. Lyria jumped at the sound of her voice coming from behind her. "Y..y..yes." She replied since she was not expecting the commander to sneak up on her.
Fractureverse Hilda smiled sinisterly. "Good because that's the last cake you'll ever have." She laughed cruelly. Lyria did not know what to make of her statement, although she was starting to get suspicious. She was not the only one seated at the table who was alarmed by the commander's peculiar choice of words. Fractureverse Azura happened to have overheard the conversation and leapt from her chair to confront Fractureverse Hilda. "You've poisoned her haven't you!" Accused Fractureverse Azura dramatically. "Yes I have and I have to admit just how easy it was to take advantage of her sweet tooth." Fractureverse Hilda boosted. Fear run through Lyria's veins. "And what if someone else had eaten it?" Asked Fractureverse Azura. "Well I was watching the whole time and honestly I might have warned them not to eat it and that it was spiked depending on who it was." Fractureverse Hilda thought.
"What with?" Demanded Fractureverse Azura. "With poison of course." Fractureverse Hilda said , rolling her eyes. "Which poison?" Yelled Fractureverse Azura slamming her hands down onto the table with a bang. "Rat poison. It's easy to get hold of and it just so happens to be the right colour to blend in perfectly with raspberry cake." She replied. Lyria felt her throat turn dry in terror. 'I'm going to die! I'm going to die and to think that I'm not going to die of old age or a heroic death in battle but of eating a poisoned cake!" She panicked somewhat irrationali. "You fool! I know you hate Lyria but we still need her in this war as no one else could fill her position. To hate her is one thing but to murder her is another! If you ever lay a hand on my apprentice again I'll permanently deal with you!" Threatened Fractureverse Azura.
Fractureverse Hilda did not have time to come up with an answer for Fractureverse Azura snatched Lyria by the arm and began dragging her away. "Right let's get you to the medical camp before your insides start disintegrating." Explained Fractureverse Azura. Lyria did not know whether to be relieved by the fact that she could be saved or more concerned in knowing the horrible way she was to die, however she made sure to keep up with her unlikely rescuer. She thought that her mentor had likely stepped in because she did not want to lose the one person she could order around like she had done the other day.
Upon reaching the medical camp, Fractureverse Azura dragged Lyria inside, almost throwing her into Fractureverse Nostra. "Ah Nostra. Quickly Lyria has eaten rat poison thanks to Commander Hilda. We must take action or she'll be dead within an hour." She explained hurriedly. "Get her to sit down on one of the beds while I fetch what I need." Fractureverse Nostra replied and took some things out of one of the cupboards. Lyria was already perched on the side of a bed when Fractureverse Nostra came over. "I'm going to administer some eye drops for you." Fractureverse Nostra said briefly. After being given the eye drops, Lyria looked at them both puzzled as to why they were still standing there and not taking more dramatic measures to ensure her safety.
"W...why...are you s...st...still standing there?" She asked nervously. They both laughed while Fractureverse Nostra answered her question. "Don't worry you should be fine in about 10 minutes but I really wouldn't worry about the poison as you're about to experience something much more......unpleasant." Lyria was even more confused and worried by this. A few minutes later she was starting to feel nauseous and she was scared that this was a symptom from the poison. "I...I don't think it...it's working. I...I feel sick." She stuttered. To her surprise they both let out a sigh of relief. She glanced at her mentor expecting her to say something but she remained silent and it was Fractureverse Nostra who informed her what was going on.
"Those drops I gave you are to cause you to throw up. If you throw up the poison then you can't digest it. Simple as that. Although I hope you had a lot to eat as it will have likely lodged itself in with the food so it is unlikely that you have digested any of it yet." Fractureverse Nostra explained clearly. Lyria did not have a chance to respond before her stomach churned. She clutched her stomach trying to alleviate the growing feeling of nausea. Even though she knew it was better for her to vomit she could not help the extreme discomfort she was suffering from. Her eyes closed for a moment and she felt someone hand something to her. She opened her eyes to find that she had been handed a bucket and because she was unable to keep down the rising bile and longer she instantly threw up into the bucket.
Having thrown up a great deal, Fractureverse Nostra decided to say something to her. "Hmm...you're lucky that it's come out like this. I will hand Lady Azura some medication to make sure you take over the next week just in case you did digest a tiny piece but this is just to be on the safe side." Lyria did not like the idea of relying on Azura for anything, especially something so crucial to her well-being. "Um...no I..I'll take it." Lyria said. "Hmm, probably for the best. Can't be too trusting can we." Laughed Fractureverse Nostra, handing the medication for Lyria to keep rather than Fractureverse Azura. Fractureverse Azura rolled her eyes but chose not to respond.
"I'm feeling a bit drowsy." Lyria mumbled. "Oh that's just an after effect of the eye drops." Said Fractureverse Nostra. "How about Lyria stays here for the night? It's already late and she is unlikely to be needed until morning." Fractureverse Azura suggested. While Lyria was pleased about the possibility of staying the night, she realised that they had probably expected her to leave straight away which was rather concerning given her condition not long ago. "Yes I don't see why she can't as there's no one else needing to occupy a bed. She can leave when she wakes up in the morning." Fractureverse Nostra agreed. Without saying good night to Lyria, Fractureverse Azura left and to her surprise Nostra seemed to have left her as well despite her being unwell and thus she was left to her own devices no matter how bad she was feeling.
