after sam's first class, she headed to the library to pick up a couple of books, greeting the librarian with a smile. out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a boy, who was standing opposite of her at the counter, a book placed in front of him. sam turned away from the counter as soon as he made eye contact with her, thanking the librarian for the book before leaving the library.

luck wasn't on her side, as the boy walked next to her in the hallway. sam just simply tried to ignore the boy's presence, but he began talking.

"are you new here? i don't think i've seen you around here before." he asked.

"yeah i am." sam replied.

"well new girl, i'm steve harrington." he introduced, glancing over at the girl.

"well steve, i'm samantha mayfield." sam responded.

"nice to meet you new girl." steve smiled down at her.

"see you around steve." sam smiled back, parting ways from the boy.

all of sam's classes throughout the day passed by agonizingly slowly, but thankfully she didn't have much homework yet, so she would definitely be able to watch a movie before it got too dark out. as sam walked out of her advanced health science class, a paper was placed into her hands, the girl holding it was, tina, a girl who she met in one of her classes earlier.

"what's this?" sam asked the girl. she skimmed the heading, gathering that it was a party. "it's my annual halloween party. don't miss it." she smiled as sam nodded, walking off to her locker.

she stuffed her books into her locker, along with the bright orange paper. the last thing she wanted to do was go to a party on her favorite holiday. sam liked to stay home and watch movies, parties were more of her step-brother's thing.

sam made her way to billy's car, preparing to head back home. as she got into the parking lot, she noticed that the boy she met earlier was already waiting at his car. since the time she met steve, she learned that's who anybody ever talked about. he was the so called "king" of hawkins high school.

"mayfield!" he greeted with a slight wave, watching as she simply raised her brows in acknowledgement as she attempted to get into billy's camaro.

she quickly returned a small wave and buckled up into her step-brother's car. billy was standing outside the car talking to some girl, which they were talking pretty loudly. it kind of grossed out sam at how hard she was trying to get billy on a date with her.

"how about the party, thursday?" she asked.

the party, sam thought. why was everyone so obsessed with this party?

"you know i'll be there." billy replied, taking a long drag from his cigarette.

before samantha knew it, it was already halloween. max was quick to wake sam up that morning, exclaiming that it was halloween. now, in the mayfield household, halloween was undoubtedly the best holiday of the year. something they all agreed on. this year of course it was different. especially since max insisted that sam should go to tina's party.

the night prior, max and sam had both pulled together some costumes. max had mentioned some of the 'stalker' boys invited her to go trick-or-treating with them. sam saw that her little sister was pretty excited to hang out with these boys, but had decided not to press her into talking about them.
