I tie my hair back into a ponytail. The hair was pulling at my scalp, but this is the last time I'll fix it I swear to God. I caught the water bottle the Keegan through my way and opened it quickly.I drank fast, the cold water a revive due to the recent training in the heat. I didn't care that small streams of water slipped my mouth, I was just thankful for the savior.
"Good training out there Dex" Price says with a warm smile. His hat protecting his eyes from the sun as I raise my arm to my brows. Squinting back at him with a nod.
"Let's get back to base yeah?" Price says. We all collectively nod and pick up our belongings. It'd just been us training, the seven of us. Six not including price. We'd brought our own vehicles back and I felt soap nudge me.
I looked at him as his eyes flicked from prices turned back to mine. "How about a ra-"
"No racing soldiers, I mean it" Price growls, somehow knowing mine and Soaps discussion. Soap sighed, standing up straight as he fell into step beside me.
I laugh at his frown, and he glances across at me before his eyes shift above. I turn to see what's got his attention but jump instead, grabbing my heart instantly as I exhale.
"Jesus Christ Sir" I shout, startled at Ghost suddenly beside me. He doesn't reply and instead stares me down with a look I'd grown used too. Something as if he was valuing my price.
He looked ahead once more, and I turned to Soap who was talking to Keegan who'd taken up walking beside him. Gaz and Alejandro were beside Price, discussing something with passion.
"Good job at the win today sir" I say to Ghost with a gentle smile. He shrugged and at first i thought he was being humble.
"I always win" he said before turning towards his truck. I don't reply, he's already gone before I can. Soap takes my attention as he gives a tap on my shoulder, giving a short wave as he heads towards his truck beside Keegan's.
I buckle my helmet and zip the leather jacket. The weight of it adding to my gear. I turn the ignition and make the engine roar loudly. I'm returned with the honks of my teammates, driving past.
Their windows rolled down and they shouted some insult at me while I grinned. "Show off" Soap said, smiling.
"We get it little mouse" Keegan said, flipping me off. I followed the several individual cars back to base. Riding at the back of them all.
When we get back to base, we pile into the meeting room. Price is at the head of the table, standing as his hands clasp behind his back.
It's been almost a week since our drinking outing and it's been filled with training and good weather. I'm glad to be finally getting through to the team around a month. Even if it's not completely.
Me and Soap have bonded recently, sure we talked before, but something seems different after our night out. Maybe it was the nuggets. He doesn't seem to mind talking to me or walking around with me.
Gaz and Alejandro are as welcoming as ever still. Always there if I need some extra help training or a lesson on the guns. They are life savers, looking out for me and keeping me company. Explaining things, I'm not so sure on. I appreciate them more than I could say.
Keegan continues to tease me, mock me and make backhanded comments. But he does seem to treat me like a person these days. The harshness to his tone is gone when he speaks but I see he's not fully into having me still.
Sure, he'll sit with me at the cafeteria, but that's if the team is around me. Or he'll actually give me a chance, under the orders of price. He even gave me a bottle of water today.
