Dawn handed the papers over to her lawyer with a small accomplished smile. It had been about six months since her mission in Ecuador, she had her powers mostly under control, but she didn't like to risk it much, so while she'd usually like to do things in person, she did more over the phone or email. Except this, this she did in person. This, she signed in person with Max at her side. Max had quickly become her best friend, she told Max everything, she told her all about her trail of broken relationships, told her all about her parents divorce and how she was basically no contact with her father and eldest brother, told her all about Lance and Bobbi's mess of a relationship. Max was her person, and she made a very convincing case when asking her to come with her.
"Well, ms hunter, I'm very proud to tell you that this house is now yours. You have access to the water fro-"
"Yeah yeah I know, you told me all this when you showed me the place" Dawn said with a roll of her eyes. Her phone ringed in her pocket, she shut it off. She'd been ignoring her brother's phone calls, along with her mums. They'd even gotten bobbi to call her. But she couldn't take it. Every conversation felt like a lie. She had powers, none of them knew. She had a house! None of them knew. And it would stay that way.
She took the keys the realtor held out to her and waltzed into her new home. It had a huge beautiful kitchen, for all of Max's cooking endeavours. It had a garage big enough for an entire dealerships worth of vehicles. Or for a jet and some vehicles. It had dozens of rooms, a rooftop bar and patio, hundreds of acres of land, an orchard taking a chunk of that, and the house sat on the beautiful waterfront in croatia. There was a pool, sandy beach, beach tents and swings into the clear water. And it was all hers.
"Well, Maximus Prime-"
"You can't call me that until you've watched the movie" Max interrupted
"Well you haven't seen it either!"
"All the more reason as to why you can't call me that"
"Ugh fine. Well, Maxi Pads," Dawn grinned at Max's groan, "This is all ours. Give me a list of things for the kitchen, and I'll have it all delivered within the week. Actually, order it, use my card" Dawn said, having no idea how to properly fill her new house with things. She didn't even have a bed.
"I have money too, you know" Max said with a roll of her beautiful blue eyes. Max did have money, not family money like Dawn, but money saved from when she worked as a teenager, and then from when she was a shield agent. She'd been stationed out of The Finale, so food was taken care of by shield, and she lived in shield issue clothing, mostly tactical gear since she'd been a part of the 'Cleanup crew'. A tac team led by Isabel Hartley, whom she'd grown quite close to. Max was devastated when she heard the news that Izzy had died. She'd been amongst the lucky few to hear about her relationship with Victoria Hand. and now they were both dead, amongst so many others because of stupid hydra.
Dawn shrugged, money talk wasn't her favourite, growing up it was talked about a lot. It was boring and tacky, and she just wanted to make her new house look lived in. "Alright, we'll take turns at each store paying. No competition between monetary value of things" She said, making her way to the garage when Max nodded to begin their shopping spree.
Hours later, large trucks began parking in Dawn's driveway, dropping off furniture and other appliances, Max and Dawn sat on the new couch, their bank accounts now much emptier, their smiles much more exhausted. But there was no doubt about whether or not it had been worth it. Their new home was fully furnished.
