May 1996 - The Ministry Of Magic, London
"Stupefy!"
We all cast the spell at the same time. The death eaters moved and we made a run for it. But they turned up, blocking us at every corner. We ended up splitting up. Harry was with me. Neville and Luna stuck together, and Ron, Ginny, and Hermione stayed together as we raced through the shelves. I could hear spells being cast at the death eaters. Spells none of us would have known if it weren't for Harry. After we thought we were making progress on finding the door, we all happened to run right back into each other. Then down the hall, we saw several death eaters flying at us all together. I pushed myself in front of everyone.
"Reducto!" I cast. It sent the death eaters flying and knocked over all the shelves of the misty glass orbs. Then we noticed that we would get caught up in all the smoke if we didn't move.
"Get back to the door!" Harry shouted. We all started racing for the door. We barely made it through the door as the shelves came crashing down. But when we ran through the door, there was no ground on the other side. We fell down a big hole and stopped right before hitting the ground, allowing us to land without hurting ourselves.
"Department of mysteries," Ron said as we all stood up. "They got that bit right, didn't they?" There was a large archway opening that seemed to have a portal inside. We heard whispering as Harry and I walked close to it.
"The voices," Harry said. "Can you tell what they're saying?"
"There aren't any voices, Harry," Hermione said. "Come on. Let's get out of hear."
"I hear them too," I said.
"Me too," Luna added. The three of us were mesmerized by the archway.
"Harry," Hermione said. "It's just an empty archway." Harry turned around and looked mortified.
"Get behind me!" he said. We all got behind him and drew our wands. A mist of black smoke surrounded us as we ducked to get away from the death eaters. But when the mist cleared, Harry was standing alone in front of the archway. And each of us was being held by a death eater with a wand to our necks. Lucius wrapped his arm around my neck and slowly walked towards Harry with his wand inches away from my face.
"Did you actually believe," he said as he walked towards Harry, dragging me with him. "Or were you truly naive enough to think...that children stood a chance against us? I'll make this simple for you, Potter." He extended his hand towards Harry, still keeping me in his arms. "Give me the prophecy now...or watch your friends die." The word echoed throughout the room. Die? Would Lucius really kill me? Harry looked at me, then at all of our friends who were one move away from death. The silence sat for a moment as Harry contemplated what he was supposed to do.
"Don't give it to him, Harry!" Neville shouted.
"Shh!" Bellatrix hissed, bringing her wand closer to his neck. Harry slowly placed the prophecy into Lucius's hand, and Lucius flung me at Harry in return. Harry caught me before I hit the ground as Lucius marveled at the prophecy. Harry put himself in front of me. Lucius lifted the prophecy up and inhaled deeply. Then behind him, through the archway, there was a bright yellow beaming. We looked to see Sirius calmly walk up to Lucius.
"Get away from my godson," Sirius said. And he punched him right across the face. Lucius fell over and dropped the prophecy. It broke and the smoke dissolved right in his hand. Flurries of light scattered throughout the room as people appeared. Good people. I could tell. They gave the death eaters a proper fight and rushed all of our friends to safety.
"Go, Grace!" Harry said, pushing me away from him and behind a stone of safety. I took the opportunity to fix my mistakes. I walked up to Lucius and raised my wand in his face.
"Obliviate," I said, erasing my presence from this specific memory. One of the people who were helping us ushered me behind the other stone where the others were hiding. I slowly started casting obliviate on all the death eaters from behind my stone, just so they would forget they saw me there. When I was sure I had gotten everyone, I watched Harry and Sirius fight death eaters alongside each other. The death eaters didn't stand a chance. Harry had disarmed Lucius and Sirius sent him flying.
"Avada Kadavra!" An electric green shock came out of Bellatrix's wand and latched itself onto Sirius. He went completely numb as the room went silent. Avada Kadavra. That's the killing curse. She killed him. Sirius is dead. Sirius turned towards Harry and they only stared at each other. Harry knew what had happened. Sirius smiled at Harry and let out a slight laugh as he fell backward into the archway and it carried him away. Gone. Just like that. Harry tried to run after him, but someone grabbed him and held him still as he screamed in agony. Hermione and I looked at each other from behind the safety of our stone. We couldn't help but sob. Hermione fell into Ron's arms and cried. I turned around, unable to look at the scene, and sobbed. I noticed Bellatrix slip out the door into the main entrance of the ministry. Harry broke away from the grip of who was holding him back and chased after her. I felt like I had to chase after him.
"I killed Sirius Black! I killed Sirius Black!" echoed through the ministry. She cackled wildly. "You coming to get me?" she taunted Harry.
"Crucio!" Harry cast at her. I stood back, watching the scene from a distance so Bellatrix couldn't see me since I had already obliviated her. Bellatrix tripped over Harry's spell and fell over. Harry stood over her while she lay on her back and looked up at him. He drew his wand but didn't cast anything. Then a voice could be heard. A deep and smooth voice.
"You've got to mean it, Harry," it hissed. "She killed him. She deserves it. You know the spell, Harry." Harry's head twitched as he tried to ignore the voice. Suddenly, a face went flying around Harry. Bellatrix laughed as the face turned into a body. The body of Lord Voldemort was standing right behind Harry. "Do it!" he shouted. Harry spun around and tried to cast a spell on Voldemort, but Voldemort disarmed him. "So...weak," Voldemort said. But out of the green flames of one of the chimneys came Albus Dumbledore. You could sense fear in Voldemort when he saw Dumbledore.
"It was foolish of you to come here tonight, Tom. The Aurors are on their way."
"By which time, I shall be gone," Voldemort said. "And you...shall be dead." Voldemort and Dumbledore wielded their wands and multicolored electricity surrounded them as they fought. Harry fell out of the way, behind the chimney I was hiding behind. I grabbed him and pulled him close to me as we continued to watch Dumbledore and Voldemort. Bellatrix had slipped away through the green flames of the chimney. Harry held me close to him as the wind of the battle ran through our hair. Bits and pieces of the ministry walls were falling apart. I did my best to hide my face from Voldemort, but it didn't seem like he was looking at me. He was preoccupied with Dumbledore.
Voldemort cast a flame that took the form of a snake and launched it at Dumbledore. All the while, Harry and I held onto each other. Dumbledore was quick to get rid of the snake and capture Voldemort in an orb of water. Dumbledore let the water crash to the floor and Voldemort let out a gust of power that caused everything made of glass in the ministry to shatter and fall to the ground. He then sent the shards flying at Dumbledore, but Dumbledore put up a shield that disintegrated them. Voldemort disappeared into a black mist. But he was still there. We could still move him. Then Harry fell over as if he'd been hit by a bus. He lay on the ground, acting like he was choking. Then dark circles formed around his eyes as he stared at Dumbledore.
"You've lost, old man," he hissed. But this wasn't Harry talking. This was Voldemort. Harry groaned as he twitched around on the floor, obviously trying to fight it off.
"Harry," Dumbledore. "Harry, it isn't how you are alike. It's how you are not." The darkness around Harry's eyes faded as he took control.
"You're the weak one," he said to Voldemort. "And you'll never know love. Or friendship. And I feel sorry for you." Harry suddenly was flipped onto his back as we watched Voldemort's spirit leave Harry's body.
"You're a fool, Harry Potter," Voldemort said. He was standing above Harry, looking down at him. "And you will lose...everything." Right then, ministry workers started appearing through the green flames of the chimney for a regular day at work. Cornelius Fudge froze at the sight of Voldemort slowly evaporating away.
"He's back."
