CHAPTER 3:SOMETHING ISNT RIGHT
The teacher allowed the knocker to enter, and Malikai walked into the room, but he didn't seem like the Malikai Rihanna and Maria knew. He had an expressionless look on his face, and he appeared sleep-deprived. What caught Rihanna's eye were bits of dried blood stains on the palm of his hand. Her heart stopped for a moment, and she stood up, leaping towards him. She gripped his hand and dragged him out of the class, ignoring the teacher's protest.
"I won't be long, Miss. This is important," Rihanna replied while shutting the door. She glared up at Malikai as he looked down at her with a hint of emotion.
"Malikai! Where have you been?! What happened!?" She began to cry, but he said nothing, looking like he wanted to cry as well. "Malikai, please! Tell me what's going on! What's this on your hand?" She lifted his hand, causing his sleeve to slide down, revealing scars deeply carved into his skin. Her heart stopped again, and tears wouldn't stop falling from her face. Malikai pulled away, beginning to cry himself.
"I'm sorry," Rihanna whispered beneath her breath before pulling him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around her, leaning his forehead on hers. They both looked deeply into each other's eyes. Malikai then grabbed her clothes softly, turned, and pushed her back into the wall gently. He dragged his finger across her jawline, lifting her head and leaning in close to her ear. She could feel the warmth of his breath on her neck, sending slight goosebumps down her spine.
"I didn't mean to worry you," he whispered softly. She pushed him slightly back so their eye contact locked, giving him a caring look.
Malikai pulled her close, embracing her tightly, and then gently kissed her forehead. Her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, and she couldn't stop staring at him.
"I'll tell you what's happened during the break," Malikai said, "but Maria can't be there." Rihanna nodded with a determined expression. They both returned to the classroom, and Malikai resumed his expressionless demeanor. As they took their seats, the teacher gave Rihanna a thumbs-up, silently checking if everything was alright.
Maria looked concerned and whispered to Rihanna, "Is he okay?" Rihanna nodded and replied, "I've got it sorted for now." The class eagerly waited for the break bell, and when it finally rang, everyone rushed out of the classroom. Malikai and Rihanna stayed behind, and Rihanna asked the teacher, "Miss, can we please borrow the classroom?"
The teacher considered for a moment and then agreed, saying, "As long as you keep it clean, you're fine." With the room to themselves, Rihanna looked deeply at Malikai, who avoided making eye contact.
"I've been dealing with a lot at home for a long time," Malikai began. Rihanna remained silent, allowing him to share all the details. "Most of the time, if I do the tiniest thing they don't like, they become physically or mentally abusive, and it's causing me to lose myself more and more every day." Rihanna wrapped her arm around him for comfort.
"I had to stay home for a while because the wounds they left on me would've been noticed, and if a report was filed, it would've caused them to go berserk," Malikai explained, appearing anxious. Rihanna assured him, "You don't have to continue if you're uncomfortable, Malikai." He shook his head and said, "No, it's fine. I trust you," making her smile.
They sat in silence for a while, and then Malikai took a deep breath. "And you know, with Derek and Jayden being absolute pains, it makes everything more difficult," he said with a hint of distress in his tone. Rihanna gazed at him, unsure of how to respond, but she hugged him tightly and whispered, "You're going to be alright."
Malikai got up, extended his hand to Rihanna, and she took it. He helped her up from her seat, and they left the classroom together. They found their spot and sat down together, wondering where Maria had gone, assuming she might be hanging out with Ellie or other friends.
The bell had rung and they were going to the class they had together, when Rihanna got to the outside of her classroom she turned around to see malikai disappeared, she got confused and retraced her steps through the halls but she couldn't see him, she wished to continue looking but a teacher had stopped her and sent her off to class.
Malikai roamed the school, searching for an escape route, his footsteps echoing through the deserted hallways. As he turned a corner marked "out of bounds," he accidentally bumped into Derek and Jayden, who were discreetly smoking cigarettes. The abrupt collision caused Jayden to drop his cigarette.
"What's your problem?!" Jayden shouted, shoving Malikai with force. Malikai remained silent, his eyes fixed on Jayden with an emotionless glare.
"You look so lifeless," Jayden taunted, laughing at Malikai's vacant expression. Derek, still burdened by the guilt of a recent party incident, hesitated on the sidelines.
"Stop staring at me like that, bro. Do you think you're intimidating?" Jayden asked, growing slightly unnerved. Malikai's unwavering gaze persisted, making Jayden uncomfortable. In a burst of anger, Jayden forcefully pushed Malikai, almost causing him to stumble.
Malikai quickly regained his balance, shoving Jayden back in retaliation, sending him to the ground. Derek, conflicted, stepped aside, unwilling to get involved.
Jayden got up, throwing a punch at Malikai, landing a hit. Malikai responded with a series of punches, intensifying their confrontation. Their heated exchange continued until Malikai managed to overpower Jayden, pinning him to the ground.
Relentlessly, Malikai continued to land blows on Jayden, each punch leaving visible bruises and cuts. Jayden's nose began to bleed heavily, and he pleaded for Malikai to stop. It was at this moment that Derek stepped in, physically restraining Malikai. Despite Derek's efforts to hold him back, Malikai continued throwing punches until Jayden lost consciousness.
Derek released his grip on Malikai and hurried to Jayden's side, lifting him gently, desperately trying to awaken him. Tears welled up in Derek's eyes as he glared at Malikai, his voice quivering with anger, "You went too far!" he shouted.
Malikai's own nose had started to bleed, but he appeared far less battered than Jayden. He continued to cast his emotionless gaze upon Jayden's unconscious form before silently walking away, disappearing from view.
Derek held Jayden close, tears streaming down his face, and carried him to the nurse's office. "Please, someone help him. I think he might have a concussion," Derek cried out. The school nurses rushed over, guiding Derek to lay Jayden on one of the beds. They began cleaning his injuries, while Derek anxiously watched from a distance.
An hour passed, and the nurses decided to call an ambulance. The school principal approached Derek to inquire about the incident, but Derek, clearly stressed, offered to write a statement instead. Soon after, the ambulance arrived and rushed Jayden to the hospital. Derek tagged along, staying by Jayden's side, consumed by worry about his injured best friend.
At the hospital, he waited anxiously as Jayden underwent scans and x-rays. The results revealed a cracked skull, two broken fingers, and a fractured left wrist. Derek promptly contacted Jayden's parents, who rushed to the hospital. They all sat together in the waiting room, hours ticking away as they longed for updates on Jayden's condition. Jayden's mother held jayden close, a worried expression on her face, as she gently caressed his bruised jawline. Jayden nodded with remorse in his eyes, unable to believe that Malikai had fought back.
Days passed, and Jayden was finally discharged from the hospital, although he stayed home from school for several days to recover. Derek's anger grew as he watched his friend's suffering, and a desire for revenge began to consume him.
Every day Derek arrived at school waiting for malikai to show up so he could hurt him, even if he got hurt badly himself he didn't really care, Derek did eventually grow tired of malikai not arriving to school.
As days gone by he came up with another plan, one lunch Derek was walking around the school and he found jessica with a group of friends, he taken her aside and asked her if she had malikai's address, and she gave it to him. She asked Derek what was going on and when he told her she wanted to stand by his side and help him.
Derek and Jessica had planned to break into his house and stab him, not somewhere that could kill him but he wanted malikai to hurt for what he done to Jayden.
After days of planning Jessica convinced Derek to let he do it because she knew how to sneak in through the window multiple times before.
