CHAPTER 4: loosing sanity

Malikai found himself alone in his bedroom, the ambient glow of his phone illuminating the darkened room. Multiple messages from Rihanna kept flooding in, seeking his attention. A heavy sigh escaped his lips as he set the phone down beside him. He needed a moment of silence. Closing his eyes, he allowed himself to rest.

After a short break, Malikai rose from his bed and decided to engage in drawing. He had just begun to immerse himself in his creative world when a faint, scraping sound captured his attention. The noise seemed to originate from his bedroom window, causing him to snap into a state of alarm. Slowly, the window slid open, and his eyes locked onto a figure with flowing blond hair.

The intruder turned out to be Jessica, and Malikai's anger flared as he demanded to know why she was there. Her demeanor, however, seemed bizarrely innocent, she slowly approached him with a cheeky smile, concealing something behind her back. Suspicion mounting, Malikai maintained his defensive stance.

Suddenly, in a swift and shocking move, he shoved her back, and she tumbled, causing a knife to slip from her grasp. His widened eyes and growing anger were now directed at this alarming discovery. He swiftly moved to retrieve the knife. A panicked Jessica threw her arms up defensively, crying that she had no intention of hurting him.

Malikai's response was unsettling - he began to smirk, and this twisted amusement eventually gave way to a sinister laughter as he accused her of pretending to be a "crazy bitch." Jessica, desperately trying to recover the situation, grabbed a pillow from Malikai's bed and threw it at him. She then fled from his room, with Malikai hot on her heels. As she reached the downstairs of his house, she threw herself out of the front door, making a dash for Derek's car. Malikai, standing at the open front door, recognized Derek's car and chuckled as he watched it speed away.

Inside the car, Derek's heart raced as he interrogated Jessica about the chaotic encounter. Jessica accused Derek of her life being at risk due to his revenge plan, prompting a heated argument. Derek insisted that she had willingly participated. Their dispute resulted in Jessica being forced to leave the car, leaving the tension unresolved.

The following day at school, Derek sensed the unsettling atmosphere as people exchanged whispers and gazes, casting apprehensive glances in his direction. feeling anxious he kept his head down and continued walking. Upon reaching the outside of his first class, he discovered Maria whispering to Rihanna. Derek couldn't contain his anxiety and approached them, demanding to know why he was becoming the subject of everyone's attention.

Maria, assessing Derek with a serious tone, explained the situation. "Jessica has gone around saying you sexually assaulted her, and that you attempted to kill jayden, and malikai the night you supposedly assaulted her" Derek was left distraught, "i never hurt jayden, malikai had gotten him hospitalised and i just wanted to make malikai hurt a little bit to avenge jayden, and i never touched her" Derek said in a panicked tone defending himsel.

Rihanna, her face drained of color, interrupted "is malikai okay!?" Derek assured her that Malikai was unharmed, yet the guilt he felt weighed heavily on him. Maria, determined to support him, advised Derek not to let "little scummy girls like her" destroyhis life, emphasizing that Jessica had a history of making false allegations. Derek eventually shared the real events with everyone who would listen and reported Jessica to the principal, who suspended her for the rest of the month due to her history of spreading lies.

During Jessica's suspension, Derek grew closer to Maria and Rihanna. with Jayden also returning to school, mostly recovered but still bearing physical scars that served as a constant reminder of the fight between him and makikai. Jayden's attitude had hardly improved; he continued to be a bully and especially targeted Rihanna, doing so behind Maria's and Derek's backs. Reluctantly, Rihanna began seeing a school counselor to address the emotional trauma she had been enduring. The counselor encouraged her to identify her tormentor, but Rihanna remained silence.

One day, Malikai wandered through the empty school halls during the break while other students enjoyed the outdoors. He happened upon a room and overheard Rihanna's voice coming from inside. He paused, eavesdropping on her conversation with the counselor. Rihanna delved into the painful details of her horrible past home life, revealing a major past of abuse. Her recounting included the period after her father leaving, her mother's involvement with a new partner, and the horrifying experiences with her stepbrother that lasted for years. Her mother's denial, coupled with her stepfather's and stepbrother's violence, painted a dark picture.

The conversation left Malikai profoundly disturbed and incensed. Unable to bear hearing any more, he stormed away, refusing to attend his classes for the rest of the day. His sole presence at school was to ensure Rihanna's well-being. During the second break, he hid among the bushes, close to where he used to sit with Maria and Rihanna. His anger intensified when he spotted Derek mingling with the group and forming an unsettling rapport. It was evident that Rihanna was not at ease when Jayden showed up, further fueling Malikai's fury.

As night fell, Jayden experienced a horrifying ordeal. He received a series of chilling messages from an unknown user, instructing him to harm himself in various disturbing ways. Initially, Jayden laughed off the messages, replying in a dismissive, joking manner. However, the situation took a sharp turn when the unknown user displayed an unsettling knowledge of Jayden's private information, including his address, his parents' full names, birthplaces, workplace addresses, and even their past employment locations.

Growing increasingly uneasy, Jayden pleaded with the unknown user to cease the torment, but the relentless messages pushed him to the brink. He finally gaven in to the demands and began to record himself carrying out the horrifying instructions, each action causing him immense physical and emotional pain. The unknown user escalated further, instructing Jayden to overdose on specific pills, seemingly aware of the medication his parents possessed. Desperate to protect his family, Jayden negotiated with the unknown user, who agreed to spare them if he followed through.

The unknown user, maintaining a call, watched as Jayden, tearful and trembling, swallowed a handful of medications with a glass of water. The pills began to take their toll on his body, leaving him pale and convulsing. Jayden ultimately collapsed, foam spewing from his mouth, his body wracked by intense seizures. The unknown user abruptly ended the call and erased all traces of the horrifying exchange, leaving Jayden lifeless without anyone knowing at the time.

The next morning at school, a massive assembly took place, with Rihanna, Maria, and Derek sitting together, all wondering what was going on. The principal had addressed the student body over the loudspeaker, instructing everyone to settle down before delivering some heartbreaking news.

"Good morning, boys and girls. I have brought you all here today to inform you that one of our lovely students has committed suicide last night," the principal began. The students began to whisper, trying to figure out who it might be. The three friends remained in silence, waiting for the principal to continue.

"The young boy had taken his life with unknown reasons, and forever loved. Everyone, please have a minute of silence for Jayden Scott," the principal announced. As he mentioned Jayden's name, Derek's heart sank, and his eyes welled up with tears. He couldn't bear to stay there any longer. He stood up and ran out of the assembly, with Rihanna and Maria quickly chasing after him.

Derek ran quite a distance from them before collapsing to his knees, utterly devastated. Both girls rushed up to him, wanting to comfort him, but he yelled at them to go away. Reluctantly, they respected his wishes and watched him from a distance. Derek knew he needed support during this difficult time, so he called his mother to pick him up, and the three friends were left to grapple with the shock of Jayden's tragic loss.
