CHAPTER 5:CONNECTION

Later that night, Rihanna received a text message from Malikai. She opened it hastily, reading his message inviting her to come over. She messaged him, accepting his invitation, and rushed to put on her shoes before heading to the location he sent her. When she saw him, he had an emotionless expression on his face. He led her up to his room, and they talked all night. Although he didn't show much emotion, he smiled here and there. Rihanna began going to his house practically every night, leaving before his parents returned home. Every day at school, she updated Maria on Malikai's well-being.

One night while at Malikai's house, the atmosphere turned silent. After a while, Malikai placed his hand on Rihanna's and gazed at her, saying, "Rihanna..." He drew her attention onto him, looking deeply into her eyes. "Rihanna, I think I really like you, more than a friend." Rihanna was flustered and almost speechless. "I think I feel the same," she responded softly. They both slowly leaned in toward each other, and Malikai pulled her into a deep kiss.

When it came time for Rihanna to leave, Malikai stopped her, pleading, "Stay with me for the night." She nodded, slightly worried that his parents would be mad. As the clock struck midnight, Malikai heard his father walking into the house from downstairs. He rushed downstairs with anger in his eyes, grabbing a vase and smashing it across his father's head. The alarming noise caused Rihanna to run downstairs, her frozen in shock to see Malikai's father passed out on the floor with blood dripping from his head. She glanced at Malikai with fear in her eyes, and he glared back, showing no remorse.

"Malikai, I can't stay here. What did you do?" she cried, cupping her hands over her mouth. "It's fine, he can't bother us now," Malikai grinned, staring at his unconscious father.

"No!" Rihanna shouted, running out the door and pushing past his mom. Malikai went to stop her but stopped himself due to his mother's presence. She had seen what he did to his father and began shouting at Malikai, chasing him as he ran toward the kitchen and grabbed a knife. "Maki... baby, put that down," his mother stuttered. Malikai turned toward her with a sinister grin on his face. He leaped at his mother, piercing the knife into her neck. Blood spewed out everywhere, and she collapsed to the floor. Malikai walked past her toward his dad, crouching down next to his father, and began to stab him multiple times.

The next day, Malikai's worry about rihanna led him to school, where he eagerly searched for Rihanna. When he finally spotted her, he couldn't resist running up to her and pulling her into an unexpected, tight hug. Rihanna, taken aback by the sudden embrace, was slightly shocked. When Malikai released her, there was a hint of fear in his eyes as he said, "Rihanna, I'm sorry," staring intensely into her eyes. Given the unsettling events of the previous night, Rihanna looked slightly scared but responded, "It's fine, Malikai, but you shouldn't have done that."

He looked away, fully aware that his actions had only complicated their already tangled relationship. Nevertheless, he hugged her again, holding her tightly and resting his head on her shoulder. "Please come over tonight," he pleaded, revealing his vulnerability. Rihanna felt a mixture of guilt and sympathy, so she reluctantly agreed to visit later that evening.

After their farewell at the school gates, Malikai went back to his house, and they both continued with their day. That night, as Rihanna walked to Malikai's house, the disturbing image of his unconscious father lingered in her mind, causing her heart to race with unease.

Once inside his home, they chatted in his room, yet Rihanna couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss. She noticed that Malikai was expressing more emotion than he typically did, and she sensed he was trying to hide something from her.

Growing increasingly uneasy, she decided to excuse herself, saying, "Uhm, I need to go to the bathroom," and waited for Malikai to nod before leaving his room and quietly closing the door behind her. As she made her way down the stairs, a sense of foreboding washed over her. She explored the house, hoping to find any clues that might explain Malikai's behavior.
