My eyes widened.
I wasn't scared or terrified.
The fact that I have been talking to a man-eating demon all this time just startled me, that's all...
That's not the main part.
In his eyes, there was Kanji written in them.
Uppermoon one.
Uppermoon one. The second strongest demon to ever exist, like he explained.
My breath caught up to my lungs, and I coughed, nearly losing my balance.
His hands found a way to ease me.
The next thing I knew was that we were now sitting on the soft grass, with him gently rubbing my back in case I needed more support.
I guess being a ghost didn't completely get rid of my illness.
"Are you alright...?" He asked, his hands still firmly placed behind my back.
I nodded. "Thank you–..."
"Did–" He started, "Did my appearance scare you?"
"No–" I replied.
Not really.
..I guess.
We became silent.
That kind of became our thing; sitting in silence.
Strangely, it wasn't awkward anymore.
"Let's find out why you aren't able to move on." He finally spoke. "As you know, I can only help you at night."
"What do you suggest I do first?" I asked.
He sighed softly. "I don't know."
I paused. What?
I thought he helped others before... that's why he helped me, right?
"What do you mean, you don't know? Didn't you help other spirits before?"
He shook his head slowly.
I smiled awkwardly. "This makes no sense. Why'd you decide to come up and help me, then? You've never done it before."
He stayed silent.
"...a change of heart?" I tilted my head slightly, still looking awkward.
"...perhaps." He replied without the clear answer I wanted. "We will never know."
"Psh..." I huffed, crossing my arms.
He leaned down a little. "Are you... pouting?"
"What?!" I blurted, standing up straight. "What kind of question is that??"
"My apologies." He muttered. "Was that... a strange question?"
Is he seriously this clueless?
How ancient is he?!
"You're an extremely awkward person.." I admitted to him, shaking my head slightly.
He blinked his many eyes, staring down at me. "...me? Awkward?"
"How long have you been alive?" I asked, then shook my head, cutting him off when he was about to reply. "Let me rephrase the question. What era were you in before you turned into a demon?"
"It must've been the..." He seemed to calculate quickly in his head, "Sengoku era."
"SENGOK–" I stuttered, collapsing my hand over my mouth. "That was– like 200 years ago! You're way more ancient then I thought you were going to be!!"
