Eda waited until Kiraz fell asleep to sneak out of the room. Since they returned to the house in the evening, the little girl was restless and cried a lot. Eda wanted to cry too, but she had to keep her exterior demeanor calm, or she would stress her baby even more.
When finally Kiraz seemed to be in a deep sleep, Eda tiptoed to the door and went downstairs to leave the house through the terrace door. She sat on the garden swing, hidden from the window view by tall bushes, and burst into tears.
She was crying hysterically, hugging herself and rocking slightly. She couldn't breathe, and at the same time, she felt dead and empty inside. She did it. She finally did what she should do two years ago. She no longer was Serkan's wife and didn't bear his name anymore.
She clung to the idea of being Eda Bolat for so long because it allowed her to feel connected to him, even if it was the tinest link that ever existed. She was his wife and that meant the world to her. But now, when Eda Bolat ceased to exist, and Eda Yildiz came back to life, it felt as if the whole happiness disappeared from the world.
She was someone different as Eda Bolat, her real self, the one she always wanted to be, instead now she was Eda Yildiz, a cold, calculated, cruel woman who destroyed other people's lives in the service of the greater good and justice. Why did no one ever speak about the means that were needed to achieve the end? When the success was celebrated why did no one ever mention casual innocent victims who were hurt to achieve it?
If it only meant that Serkan and Kiraz would be safe. She wouldn't hesitate even for a second. She would accept Serkan hating her to the end of her life only to keep them safe. She knew she was risking by even having any contact with him. If someone would see them together and interpret their relationship in the wrong way, the news could start to spread, and the consequences could be tragic. She needed to stay as far away as it was possible.
"Why did you call me all the way here?" Eda asked straightway, passing the door to her boss's office in Istanbul, where she hadn't been for almost a year and a half.
"This is your new case." Mehmed tossed her a file.
She picked it up and quickly ran her eyes through the documents. She frowned, seeing the place of mission.
"Istanbul? I can't work here." She protested.
"You have a couple of months to prepare. You did well in Italy, but the case is finished, you're going back to full-time work, no more lazing."
Eda opened her mouth to voice her doubts, but she wasn't allowed to speak.
"Don't worry. Your 'problem'," Mhemed paused and smiled ironically. "Will be taken care of."
"What do you mean?" She looked at the man intently. "What do you want to do to Serkan?"
"He will be sent abroad. He's going to win a huge contract in London, he can't say no to it. You should be grateful. It's a great opportunity for your husband." He mocked her. "By the way, when the divorce?"
Eda ignored the last part of Mehmed's sentence. "You said I had to leave for safety measures."
"And the wait period is done."
"I'm risking with everything I have. It's not only about me anymore."
"Return to Istanbul and don't think about doing anything stupid like, for example, rekindling the old flame, and you will keep your protection. Understood?"
