I hop up onto the couch next to Diane, as she types away on her computer. "What do you need?" She asks in a very monotone, non-Diane voice. "Can we go get some ice cream..please mommy." I beg, using her nickname that would easily make her fold. "In-" Diane starts, but then looks over and sees my puppy eyes. She cups my face and smiles ever so slightly. "You just don't want mommy to get any work done do you baby? I guess we can go get some." Diane says with a smile. "Yay! Thank you mommy!" I say with a giggle as I hop off the back of the couch and run up to the front door, obediently waiting for her.
"What do you want baby?" Diane whispers to me. "Chocolate please.." I Mutter as I look around. "One chocolate and one vanilla please." She orders. I smile as we rush off to a table in the corner after getting our ice cream, giggling the whole way there as Diane tickled me. She hasn't been this..here in a while. I slowly eat my ice cream, a comfortable silence falling over me and Diane as we just stare at each-other. But I can tell she's staring at me with something other than love. And that scares me. "Is something wrong D? You've been acting off the past few weeks and..it's starting to get to me and I don't know if I'm just overthinking or what." I mumble out, picking at the skin of my legs. Her eyes brows furrow and she opens her mouth, but then closes it as if carefully picking her words. "I-..no, just work has been stressing me out." She says with a slight smile. "Work?" I question. I don't remember her saying she has a job. "Oh. Did I forget to tell you? I'm sorry darling, I got a job..I don't know how to describe it Really but it's just sending lots of emails from home so I won't leave you." Diane explains vaguely. "Alright. Can I go take a breath of fresh air please? It just feels really stuffy in here." I say with a sigh. I can hear the wheels turning in Diane's head. "Don't leave me." She warns with a glance. "I would never D. I just want a Little break from this crowded place." I say as I get up and throw away my Ice cream. She nods.
I lean up against the wall, a cigarette resting between my finger. She's lying. There's something going on. And I'm gonna fucking find it out, hard way, or easy way, I will.
