"What's the problem? You okay?" Namil queried, adjusting the laces of his shoes as the two made their way over to the boy's dormitory. It was the night of the party and Serenity was already skeptical of everything. It made her worry. The girl shook her head.
"Nothing, I'm okay," she smiled at the curly haired male, who was now holding her hand. The two made their way inside the dorms and to the basement. They were currently standing at the staircase. It instantly got cold but Namil was nice enough to let Serenity have his sweater for the night.
Or forever if she wanted it.
Wes and Marshell quickly caught up to Namil and Serenity. The boys looked eager to see what they were being hyped up about so they rushed down the stairs, leaving Marshell and Serenity together.
"How you feeling, twin?" Marshell asked.
"Not good at all. It's not the fact that we could possibly get in trouble for partying like this but like . . . I got a weird ass feeling and ion like it." Serenity ranted, putting on the sweater Namil gave her. Marshell nodded.
"Well, we were invited here. I was kinda forced to come but fuck it. Whenever you ready to go, we can. I don't wanna be here anyway." Marshell said. Serenity nodded, trying to relax herself.
The party was live, like expected of a frat party. There was no one patrolling the dormitory so the music was up as loud as they wanted it to be. People were already blackout drunk and some were just lazily lying on the couch, smoking.
It was obvious that this basement was made for parties. The tables and chairs, the bar area on the other side of the room. You couldn't miss it.
Another odd gut feeling settled in when there were a bunch of females at the party. It looked like it was more girls than boys.
"C'mon, Serenity, let's just go to the bar and we can relax there. I know you not into this stuff." Marshell took Serenity by her hand and let her to the other side of the room. Serenity continued to examine her surroundings, just waiting for something to happen.
"I don't even know why I agreed to come," Serenity sighed, "I guess I didn't want Namil to be by himself . . . I mean, he has Wes but still."
"No, I get it. You just tryna make sure everything good from a distance. No shame in that." Marshell replied before she took a sip of some strawberry lemonade.
"Maybe I'm thinking about everything too hard. I trust him and whatever but now I feel like shit."
"Serenity. Relax. Nothing bad gone happen. And if it does, you know how to handle it, don't you? Just chill and like I said, if you wanna go back to the room, we can."
"Okay." Serenity whispered.
The night began to drain away, the time turning from 11 quickly to 3 in the morning like it was nothing and surprisingly, Serenity had stayed. She eventually relaxed herself, partially because she was given edibles and she got tired and slept half the time.
It was about time to leave, so Serenity got up and went to find Namil so she could tell him that she'd see him tomorrow, since they had class. She already had a feeling that he wouldn't look at his phone if she texted him because he was probably too busy smoking and dozing off.
The basement was a lot easier to navigate through since some people were passed out and others went back to their rooms.
Once she found Namil, she was about to speak but it was already the end of that idea. She simply turned around and made her way out of the basement, where Marshell was standing.
"Did you find him?"
"Yeah, I found him," Serenity said before she quickly walked off, obviously not interested in talking about what she had just seen.
She wanted to break down and just cry, that's how upset she was. Her first thought was to say something right then and there but she knew how to handle the situation.
It was the next day in class and "Doomsday" by Juice Wrld and Cordae played loudly in Serenity's airpods as she did her math work for the day. She suddenly felt a tap on her shoulder, making her look up. She immediately looked back down when she saw it was Namil, not bothering to pause her music or hear him out.
She kept writing.
"You ain't tell me you got back to ya room last night," Namil said after removing the airpod from the girl's ear. She quickly snatched it back from him and left a lingering glare at him.
"I was tired and I forgot." Serenity said, looking down at her paper again. Namil hummed as if he didn't believe her.
"You forgot?"
"Yeah, I forgot," she repeated, "you should go back and do ya work. It'd be embarrassing if you failed the test after you been doing so good."
"And you usually help me wit that work. You think I know what I'm doing now?" Namil peered over the girl's shoulder, trying to remember the answers and how everything was done.
"Namil, we can talk about this stuff later. I'm really not in the mood and I got a headache."
Right when she said that, her eyes started to feel prickly, as if she were about to cry but she wasn't about to cry in front of everybody and she definitely wasn't about to cry in front of Namil. Talking to him upset her all over again. She knew she should've stayed quiet.
The day went on and Serenity stayed in her room, not feeling like talking to anyone about anything. Marshell looked at her friend, who was on the other side of the room with her blanket over her head. She could hear faint sniffling from underneath once she approached the bed.
"Look, I know you upset at wassaname but you can't ignore him all day either. That's yo man, talk to him and don't be a bitch 'cus me and you both know you not like that."
"That ain't my man. Apparently, this other bitch got him. He can have her . . . they was clearly having the time of they lives over there in the corner." Serenity said, her voice muffled by the blanket.
"Girl," Marshell sighed and moved the blanket from over Serenity's head so she could hear her clearly, "if he asks you to talk to him, I think you should. Don't wait too long and don't expect him to say anything to you first. You can't just drop him the second you see something you don't like and Namil wouldn't casually cheat on you. He likes you too much."
"Doesn't seem like it."
"He was high outta his mind, you can't completely blame him. All you can say is that he should learn how to control himself better. You can't force him to quit smoking either, so don't even tell him that. And I can't force you to talk to him. It's whatever you wanna do."
Marshell handed Serenity a tissue.
"Now stop allat crying. We finna play Roblox. You can think about this stuff later."
Serenity wiped her face and sat up on the bed, grabbing her phone so she could play Roblox with her friend.
