Rossi's POV:
The first time the team met Y/N, it was when they were being dragged into the station for questioning. They were the only witness of their neighbor being murdered. We believe the murder was related to an active serial killer case we were working. Anyone who knows me knows I can keep my emotions in check quite well. But, after seeing the disheveled, bruised face of Y/N from the other side of the two-way glass, my heart broke. I immediately left the observation room to intercept Hotch. "Aaron, let me do it." I half offered half demanded. "Why, its just an interview? It's not like she's involved. I'm just going to have Reid do it." I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding. At least that meant Y/N wouldn't have to deal with an angry Hotch on top of whatever caused all those bruises as well as countless others that were no doubt hidden. "Just be kind. She is going through something." I offered. "Obviously"
The young doctor entered the interrogation room almost immediately after Hotch and I got settled in front of the one way mirror, Morgan behind us. He carried his satchel and the case file. "Miss L/N, I'm doctor spencer Reid. I'm here to ask you a few questions about what you saw. He said without even looking at Y/N. "It's just Y/N. No Miss please. Just Y/N" A small, shaky voice offers. "Right, sorry." Spencer says as he finally focusses on the person who belongs to that voice. His eyes go wide for only a moment before fixing his calm mask back and sitting with his back to the mirror. Y/N sniffled before timidly meeting Spencer's eye. "So, you were home at the time of your neighbors death?" The only response is a silent nod. "The police report shows you were the one to call the police?" "Yes, as soon as I realized it wasn't a ruse I called immediately." This caused Aaron and I to exchange a glance. " Why would it be a ruse" " Mica and his family don't like me living in their neighborhood. They do all kinds of things to try to force me to leave. I thought this was next on their list of attempts." "Why do you think they don't want you to live around them?" Isn't it obvious?" They ask as they motion to their face. "Or shall I make it easier for you, Doctor?" They spit, Venom in their previously timid voice. They stand up and begin to pull the lower hen of their shirt up. After the hem is over most of their stomach, a large white gauze pad was shown just above their naval. Removing the bandage, a freshly scabbed over wound was revealed. "Freak" was jaggedly etched into their skin just above their belly button. Dried blood radiating from each rough line.
As soon as they pull their shirt back down, silent tears began to flow down their face. "And after all this, I still made sure to do what I could to help him" They began. Fixing their eyes on the mirror they continue. "And now I'm being interrogated for God know what. Just perfect. As if my life isn't fuck up enough." They finish before heading for the door. They bolt out of the local police department so quickly I doubt the security cameras caught them. I just stared where they once were.
The case took almost a week and a half to solve. Turns out the entire family had been killed. But, Mica was the only one killed at home. It wasn't a serial case. But we were determined to assist until the unsub was caught. Eventually it was discovered that the wife, Betty, had a brother with a sexual obsession with her. He had killed them all. He was arrested after bragging that now he was the last to have her.
--------------TIME JUMP------------------------------
Two years after that case, Aaron had been going through applications to see if there was one which could add to the BAU. My deck phone rang. It showed as being from Aaron's office. "Aaron," I say as i answer the phone. " I need you in here. Come look at this file." I hung up and walked the ten paces between my desk in my office and his in his own. You needed me" I teased as I plop down on one of chairs opposite him. He slid the new-recruit file towards me. "We need her" Aaron claimed with confidence. "She is very talented and we need to make it happen" I opened up the file, and there was Y/N's recruitment picture. I was floored. They looked so much more hardened. Like life had continued to be unkind to them. But, there was still a lightness to their eyes, even in picture firm "Aaron, she has already been placed in the cyber security department." "Don't care. Make it happen. You are good friends with the head of that department. Her skill will be wasted anywhere else."
