"Aaron!!!"
The terrified scream could be heard from all corners of the four bedroom farmhouse your blended family lived on.
Aaron had needed a lot of convincing to leave Virgina and move back to your small hometown in rural Tennessee after your pappy retired, leaving you as the only one qualified to look after the family farm. He needed much more convincing than young Jack, who was sold the second you promised Bessy was still down at the farm, ready to be milked by little cowboys in training. Kayleigh had taken to farm life easier than both the men. Having grown up visiting this farm. And even spending the first four years of her life living with you in the bedroom that was now Jack's.
Kayleigh Bell Y/L/N was skinny in build and a bit shorter than is normal for her age. Her curly soft brown hair was always tied back in either french braids, pigtail braids, or one big braid pulled tight to keep her hair out of her face. She had permanently tanned skin from her constant time either playing outside or swimming in the creek with all the other kids. The same permanent tan Y/N's skin had developed at a young age and still holds to this day. Even Jack and Aaron were starting to get some color to them. From either farm chores or playing or both.
Y/N had only moved to Virginia to see if the local soil was worth it. A favor to a neighbor who was thinking of moving 'up to the yanks country' to take the opportunity and be the only small-town famer in the area.
-----
Y/N only wanted to stay long enough to wait for the soil test results. She never thought she, or Kayleigh, were going to put down any roots in the busy city of Quantico. Y/N was merely going to use this time in VA as a mini vacation with the, then six year old, Kayleigh. But, an angel boy with sandy blonde hair changed all that.
Y/N was always meant to run her Pappy's farm. It was all she ever prepared for. All she ever dreamed of. She, unlike all her siblings and cousins, had no desire to move out of the country to make it big. She longed to take up the mantle of the very successful family farm. The one that allowed many a farmhand a steady income. It's all she and Kayleigh wanted.
Raising their own food, living off the land, selling wares to make enough to live comfortable. But, Jack Hotchner and his ever-growing curiosity slowly weaseled into both of their hearts every time he would visit the local children's library where Y/N had started working, part time, while waiting for the soil tests.
With Jack came Aaron. At first, his rough appearance scared off all the children's librarians. His signature scowl worked as a natural nosy-Nancy deterrent. But, Y/N was a tough little country gal at heart. She marched right up to that man with the intention of introducing yourself. Too bad Mr. Jack beat you to the punch.
"Daddy, this is Miss (Y/N)." Jack blurted out as soon as he could see Y/N within earshot. "She is the nicest library lady I've ever meet-ed." "Met, Jack." Aaron corrected simply while ruffling his tykes hair. "It's very nice to meet you, Miss." Aaron had offered with his right hand extended. Y/N shook it hard, Just like her pappy had taught her. After all 'The handshake of the host affects the taste of the roast' and all that. The firm handshake offered was immediately followed by Aaron officially sharing his name. "Jack's always bragging about how good you are at picking him a book or two to check out. It's nice to finally put a face to the name."
"Well, I sure do try my best." Y/N offered sweetly, proudly showing off what the northerners call her accent. Even though, to her, they have the funny accent. "See Daddy. I told you she really does sounds like a cowboy." Jack observes innocently. "Jackson Shawn. Where are your manners?" Aaron warns firmly. "Oh, he's 'ight." Y/N soothed. "He's just connectin' my voice to suh'um' he knows is all."
