As exciting as almost dying before 12 o'clock sounded, Eileen hoped to never do that again. At least it was all over. For now.

She stood in the back of the chariot with Leo, Jason and Piper while the rainbow guy, Butch, handled the reins, and the blonde girl, Annabeth, adjusted a bronze navigation device. The chariot headed east, an icy wind stinging Eileen's cheeks as they rose through the air. Seasickness churned in her stomach as the chariot lurched through the sky. Or was it air sickness? Either way, she wasn't feeling like throwing up again today.

As far as first impressions went, the four of them had failed miserably. They were still wet - their clothes had stopped dripping, but remained stained with mud. Blood matted the back of Eileen's hair - she could feel it uncomfortably against her skin. However when she moved to rub it away, her scalp was tender beneath her fingers, so she chose to leave it for that moment. One of Piper's braids had come undone and clung to the side of her face in curly strands as she stood deep in thought. Leo's curly hair had lost its volume and his hands and shirt were torn from his scramble over the edge of the abyss. Jason was the only one of them that seemed at ease, his blue eyes studying their rescuers and the sky around him, face as kind and gentle it had been before they all got thrown around a bit. Storm clouds tailed their chariot.

Leo didn't seem as concerned about his appearance, brimming with excitement. "This is so cool!" He spit a pegasus feather out of his mouth. "Where are we going?"

"A safe place." Annabeth said. She stood with the quiet air of a leader. Like she knew that whatever the world threw at her, she would be able to handle it no problem and still make it in time for afternoon tea. "The only safe place for kids like us. Camp Half-Blood."

Beside Eileen, Piper tensed. "Half-Blood?" She said, "is that some kind of bad joke?"

"She means demigods," Jason said. "Half god, half mortal."

Annabeth looked back. "You seem to know a lot, Jason. But, yes, demigods. My mum is Athena, goddess of wisdom. Butch here is the son of Iris, the rainbow goddess."

Leo choked. "Your mum is a rainbow goddess?"

Eileen elbowed him hard in the ribs.

"Got a problem with that?" Butch said.

"No, no," Leo said. "Rainbows. Very macho."
