A few minutes after the other two families left, Wynn and Luna teleported inside the house, gently nudging Sophie. They'd grown to knee-height now, and were bragging about how tall they were, and asking where Keefe was. Sophie scratched behind both of their ears. Keefe's...healing right now. His evil mother decided to throw him against a wall. We captured her, though, so she shouldn't be a threat to us any longer. The two Alicorns did their happy dance, flapping their wings, and neighing. "What's up with them?" Edaline asked, giving Wynn and Luna a piece of swizzlespice each. "They were wondering where Keefe was." Sophie answered. And to see SOPHIE! We make sure she OK! "And to see me." The twin Alicorns started licking her injured leg, which was concealed in a cast, and swung over the side of the couch. "Seriously, I'm ok, Luna and Wynn." "Aw, how cute. They really care, don't they?" Sophie looked to the stairs, finding Keefe standing there and smirking, with a few bandages wrapped around his head, arm, and stomach. Then, she realized he didn't have a shirt on, and looked away. "Keefe, can't you put a shirt on?" She heard footsteps as he came closer. "Why? It didn't bother you before." "Wait, before? Sophie, what's he talking about?" Grady's voice asked. Sophie hid behind her hair, hoping no one noticed her blush. "I, um, caught him at Candleshade without a shirt on a little while ago. He did put one on, though." "Hmmm." "Oh, Grady, leave them alone. Sophie still needs to catch Keefe up on everything." She heard retreating footsteps, silently thanking Edaline, and felt someone sit down next to her. "So, what'd I miss?"
Chapter 12
The only thing Sophie left out was that they had Gisela in custody. She didn't want to throw everything on Keefe all at once. By the time she was done, he had some questions. "So, Tam hit you with shadowflux?" "Accidentally, yes. He was aiming for Ruy." He squinted at the far wall. "And Ruy knows you're an Enhancer?" "Yes, but I don't know how he figured it out. Someone could've told him, I suppose..." Then it hit her. "During our battle with Vespera, she saw me Enhance Grady so he could control Fintan, didn't she?" Keefe nodded. "But why did she tell him if he helped Gisela force her into working with them?" Sophie decided not to notice how Keefe had used his mother's name instead of saying she was his mother. "Maybe they were working together at some point, without Lady Gisela knowing. Wait–what if they set all this up?" Sophie and Keefe shared a look. She could see the anger and hopelessness in his eyes, just like he could probably see the worry and fear in hers. "Hey, we'll figure it out." Keefe told her. "We always do, don't we, Foster?" She gave a slight nod, tying her fear and worry into the knot of emotions that sat below her ribs. She didn't need to worry about anything, or have fear flooding through her right now. "I, uh, brought you something. Just to lighten the mood." Keefe picked something up from the spot beside him, then handed it to Sophie, and smiled when she saw it. He'd made another painting, but this one was of her sister, Amy, hugging Sophie in Havenfield's pastures. He'd gotten every detail right–from her curly, brown hair to her beautiful, green eyes that glowed in the moonlight. "I-I noticed you didn't really have anything with Amy in your room. And I know how much you miss her, so...yeah." "Keefe, thank you, it's beautiful." "Alright, the patient needs her rest." Elwin said, standing in the door. "I am tired, come to think of it." Elwin left them alone once she laid on her side, and Keefe handed Ella to her, lying down beside her as the Alicorns teleported away. He held one of her hands, and the next thing she knew, she was asleep.
