"Sophie, I know That Boy makes you happy and understands you better than anyone. And I respect that. But he did hurt you once. He ran off to join the Neverseen. I've never seen you more heartbroken than when you found out. You do take into consideration that he could do that again, don't you?" Sophie's eyes stung with angry tears. She couldn't take it anymore! "Look, he ran off with the Neverseen to help us, as I've tried to explain to you many times. But you don't listen! You don't trust him, even though he's proved himself good more times that I can count. It's basically saying you don't trust me!" She paused, letting the words sink in. Then, she continued. "He helped us capture Fintan, he helped us figure out what everything means, he helped us by fighting against his own mother! Because of him, we opened the caches, we burned down one of their warehouses. You think Keefe's the enemy here, but really, it's you! He thinks you absolutely hate him, just like his father does! But he trusts you to–" "ENOUGH!" Grady was avoiding eye contact with her, staring at the stairs. A long, long moment of silence passed, but Sophie didn't feel bad about what she'd said. She didn't wish she could take it back. The one thing Grady needed to do was trust and listen to her about Keefe. "You're banned from seeing Keefe." Sophie was in such shock, she didn't even notice it when Grady left. She was speechless, thoughtless, restless. So she let the tears fall, not even caring that Sandor was there. Iggy must've sensed something, because a minute later, he fluttered onto her shoulder. The fur around his head and middle was Aqua, and the ends of his tail blended with gold. Dex probably changed it up. She rubbed his nose sadly and made a decision. A decision she knew no one would support. So, she projected a note for her parents, ripped out that page, left it on the door, and took her memory log with her. Then, she had Sandor pick her up, and climb the cliffs. As they fell down, she let the energy grow in her mind, and she pictured one of the Blackswan's hideouts. "To Brumevale." Then, she pushed the energy out of her mind, and with a loud thunderclap, the sky ripped open, and they fell through the portal.
(A/N: I just wanna say, thanks for actually reading this! If you write, you know that once you edit and re-read your chapters, it all looks like crap. Or is it just me? Anyway, have a great weekend, and check out my other stories! Percy Jackson: Hogwarts crossover, PJO Solangelo fanfic, and Voltron FF: Klance. Enjoy!)
Chapter 16
In less than a minute, they landed safely in the Brumevale ruins, on top of the tower. The roof was completely gone, along with the front-half of the wall, and there was a hole on the left side of the tower, infested with vines and moss. Honestly, it was pretty, but Sophie wasn't there to sightsee. She'd gone there to see if it would trigger anything. No luck so far. "Focus, Sophie. Patience is key." She mumbled to herself, letting her legs dangle off the edge. She even started at the new symbol in her memory log. She stayed calm, took deep breaths, and even glanced at the cloudy sky. Then, it flashed through her mind minutes–maybe hours?–later. She snatched her memory log up as the sun went down, projected the image, and stared at it. It was three symbols in one–the Neverseen eye in the middle of the Lodestar Initiative star crossing lines with the newest symbol. "So...it's all connected. But what's the new symbol mean?" She tried to rack her brain for something that could help, she swore she'd actually seen the symbol before, but only moments of silence and hopelessness passed as the sun set. Maybe she was just being paranoid, but she felt like someone was watching her, and looked around to find no one. More time passed before a voice said, "I can tell you, Sophie." Instantly, Hope was in her hand, but when she turned, she found Sandor holding Alvar in a loose chokehold.
