Chapter 35

"It's okay, I got it!" Steve yelled back as he reached the doors and pulled them open. He groaned loudly as Ed stepped forward and punched him. "Shit, Ed." Steve held his cheek and groaned. 

"Who is it? What happened?" You came running towards Steve. You glanced at Ed before looking at Steve. "Are you okay, baby?" You cupped his face, taking a look at the bruise which will be healed soon.

"I'm fine." Steve said, "Come in, Ed." 

"That was for hurting my sister, you asshole." Ed said. 

"I know, Ed. I'm sorry." Steve apologized. 

"How are you twinkles?" Ed completely ignored Steve and hugged you. 

"I'm good." You said.

"Okay. Come on let's have a drink." Eddie said and pulled you along with him to the bar in the living room.

Steve followed behind you guys and made himself a drink as Eddie already had a glass in his hand. "How's work going, Eddie?" You asked.

"It's good. I thought I wouldn't like it but I do." He said. "You talked about everything with Steve, right?"

"We did." You said. "It's gonna be alright." 

"You sure? I can always beat him up for you." Ed said. 

"I think I got it handled." You said. 

"That you do." Ed said. He eyed Steve as he sat down next to you. "Can I talk to you for a second, Rogers?"

"Of course. We'll talk in my office." Steve said, looking over at you, "You'll be okay?"

"I'll be fine." You said and smiled as Steve pecked your lips before leading Ed to his office.

"What do you want to talk about?" Steve asked, closing the door behind him.

"After Y/N told me everything, I looked into Mom and Dad's stuff and found his old diary. And it is true that he was after you and your friends before he left HYDRA." Ed said. "But he never hunted afterwards." 

"I know that, Ed." Steve said, "But I know there is something else that you want to say." 

"I will be honest, Rogers. I am scared. I can't help it. After what happened, I am scared." Ed said. 

"I can assure you that I will not hurt Y/N again. Trust me." 

"Can I?" Ed said. "I gave you a chance after the first attack. I accepted you because Y/N loves you a lot. But what you did now was worst. Give me one reason to trust you again." 

"Ed, I understand your feelings. But please, trust me when I say that I won't hurt Y/N ever again. You have me word." Steve went around his desk and removed the wooden knife that Tony had found in your apartment and handed it to Ed. "And if I do hurt her, you can use this on me. Stab my heart for an instant kill. I won't stop you because I deserve it." 

Ed stared Steve in the eyes, looking for some sort of lie. But didn't find any. Yes, he could trust Steve around you but would always be worried and scared about your safety. "That's all I needed. But I can't help but be scared, Steve. I can't help it." Ed put the knife on the desk.

"I understand, Ed. It's fine." Steve said. "You have every right to be scared of me." 

"Wait, who said I was scared of you?" Ed said, "I'm scared that those people would come for her again." 

"So, what did you mean earlier?" Steve asked. 

"I can't trust you around Y/N yet." Ed said. "But when you gave me this and said all that stuff. Maybe I can."
