The two hedgehogs walked slowly around the garden, which was actually smaller than Sonic expected.
"You have lavenders here?" Sonic asked curiously while pointing at the purple flowers by his side.
"Yes. Lavenders are my favourite, they bring peace and comfort," Shadow replied calmly with a nod and looked almost dreamily at the flowers.

"Wow. I like the smell of them," Sonic smiled and looked at his companion, who glanced back at him for a short moment before rather looking around the garden.
"Over there we have sunflowers," he pointed to distance, where they could clearly see the bright yellow petals surrounding the dark centers.

"Sunflowers! Oh sweetness, these are MY favourite!" Sonic exclaimed in joy and tried to walk faster towards them, so he could take a closer look.
"Hmmm, amazing," he smiled sweetly at the tall flowers. Shadow found the other's behavior kind of cute, but didn't dare to utter a single word about it. He just quietly watched him with his arms crossed over his chest.

He himself was wearing a comfortable dark grey tshirt, ripped black skinny jeans and black retractable heelys with crimson flame pattern decorating them. Learning about the modern world was more fun to him, than to learn some stereotypical rules of the royalty, he was sort of a rebel and didn't regret most of his decisions.

"And... what are these?" Sonic's question snapped him back to reality, following the direction of the peach finger pointing at he frowned in response.
"Very rare types of berries, we call them 'bloodberries' for their odd color combination, not to mention they kinda taste like blood," he replied carefully, noticing how much Sonic paid attention to him.

The berries were in two color combinations:
First, dark grey with a crimson top half.
Second, cherry pink-red with black top half.

"Really? The pink ones seem to be sweet," Sonic stated while looking closely at the berries.
"They are indeed sweeter than the grey ones, also both types are highly nutrient. However, they might be poisonous for insuitable users," Shadow explained to him.

Sonic found the information a little strange, but did not question it, he rather softly poked a little sack growing right next to each berry.
"And what is this for?" he got eager to know more about these odd plants.

"That's a seed sack. The plant has such cycle. You put the seed to the ground and with a good care it grows. Then the berries pop out and grow in size along with the new sack of seeds, which requires a precise cut off, so it wouldn't get damaged and the new roots could sprout after the sack gets planted to the ground," Shadow started enjoying to talk about the plants and was actually glad, that Sonic was so curious about everything around.

Ever since his best friend died in that accident, he did not see him that often, despite Silver being a spirit wandering around. Talking with a spirit wasn't so bad, but he completely missed the physical things he could do with him, like eating snacks together, playing videogames together or simply enjoying some comforting embrace during the darkest hours.

"Awesome. Could I get a taste of it?" Shadow's spiral of thoughts got cut off once again and the hedgehog reminded himself to focus on what's here and now, as long as he spends time with Sonic.
"I do not recommend that. It's time to get back now, come," he replied in firm tone this time and Sonic lowered his ears, giving him a small nod he followed him back to the mansion.

"Hey, uh.. you're not mad at me, are you?" he asked him nervously after several minutes of silence passed by while they walked through the corridors of the building.
"No. It's not about you, Sonic," Shadow shook his head before gasping lightly.
"Oh, do you like books?" he suddenly asked in joyful tone and looked at Sonic with sparkling irises. Sonic noticed, that they changed their shade now, as they were more amber than crimson.
