The red fortress was one of the buildings with the best architecture in the seven kingdoms, there was always movement in it and an aura of warm light.

That aura disappeared when Queen Aemma Arryn died in childbirth.

The waves hit the shores of King's Landing, everyone was dressed in black, a dark aura surrounded everyone present at the queen's funeral. Laenaera had not been able to break the news to her cousin, that night after the news, Rhaenyra had run to her cousin's room and she had cried in her arms all night until she fell asleep.

The queen's pyre was already ready and Syrax was there, Scarletmoon was flying over the place feeling the pain of her rider. The death of the queen had been completely devastating for everyone, especially for King Viserys Targaryen and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. The knights carried the Targaryen flag high and Laenaera held her cousin's hand, the princess had not allowed Alicent to approach her and she respected it, rather, at all times she had requested the presence of her beloved sea dragon.

Aemma's body was wrapped in fine cloth and further down the pyre was the small body of the one they had called Baelon Targaryen. Daemon approached Rhaenyra, Laenaera slowly let go of her cousin's hand to let her talk to her uncle and stood next to Alicent, the brunette girl smiled weakly at her and Leah smiled back. The king seemed devastated, and it was no wonder, he had lost his queen, the love of his life, but it was his fault, his ambition for an heir had made him reach that point.

Rhaenyra took a step forward and looked at her father, he didn't even look at her, shame consumed his body. The princess turned to look at her cousin who offered her a warm smile, Rhaenyra couldn't answer it.

"Dr..." She tried to speak.

Syrax waited patiently for the order, the dragon felt her rider's pain.

Rhaenyra looked once more at her father seeking comfort which she did not receive, in anger, Rhaenyra looked at Syrax.

"Dracarys." She spoke in a forced manner.

The dragon descended from the hill where she was and approached the pyre. Rhaenyra walked towards her cousin and hugged her, hiding her face in her opponent's neck. Laenaera could only caress her head as she watched Syrax burn Queen Aemma Arryn's pyre.

After the funeral Rhaenyra ran to take refuge in her chambers, Alicent and Laenaera tried to follow her but the princess closed the door before they could say anything.

Both friends met in Alicent's room waiting for news from the princess. Laenaera had also been affected by Aemma's death, he had lived with her for a short time but I don't know he needed much to be able to love the queen. The eldest one had her head resting on her friend's shoulder and kept one of her hands intertwined with hers.

Even they knew what would follow, the court would try to force the king to marry, to get another queen and there would be some who would take advantage of it, there was another issue, the succession.
