Chapter 5: Snake in the shadows

Realizing his stamina was completely shot from that powerful jump, Max knew he couldn't run—or even walk—the remaining distance to the corporation. Dragging his heavy legs to the nearest transit station, he scanned his pass and stepped into the G.A.T.E. terminal. In a flash of blue light, the system instantly teleported him across the city.

Max stepped out of the receiving terminal, catching his breath as he finally arrived in front of the Star Light Corporation building, with giant billboards advertising Neo's use in space travel and medical care.

When Max went inside he saw many technologies he'd never seen before, from a more compact and cutting edge teleportation device to using Neo creating a new prosthetic arm. Max walks up to the receptionist and asks where professor White is.

"Professor White is currently in the building. Do you have an appointment?"

"No, but I have this."

Max pulled out his phone and showed her the Star Light VIP authorization.

The receptionist's expression immediately changed.

"Oh. Of course. This way, sir."

The receptionist led Max to Professor White's personal laboratory and told him she would notify Professor White of his arrival.

10 minutes later.....

A brief distortion rippled through the air.

Blue-white light gathered in the center of the room before collapsing inward.

A familiar voice came from behind him.

Max turned.

Professor White stood there with a grin.

"Oh, Max! It's good to see you! How long has it been? 2 years?"

He exclaims as he steps out of the teleportation field.

"3 exactly."

"Well it's good to see you, seems like you used the V.I.P token I gave you, what are you doing here?"

"I need your help with something."

White's smile faded slightly.

"All right. I'm listening."

"You heard about the incident I was in?"

White raised an eyebrow.

"The one where you and your friend entered a restricted facility infested with monsters, got yourselves injured, and ended up unconscious for three days?"

Max winced.

"Yeah. That one."

"Well something happened to me after I recovered."

"Like what? Did you develop some kind of mutation?"

Professor White chuckled at his remark.

"Kinda, do you have anything with a low battery?"

"Ummm....here,my phone, I was just about to charge it.

Max grabs Professor White's phone and concentrates, trying to recreate what happened with his phone. At first nothing happened, he tried again, still nothing. Then, dust began getting pushed back and scattering away from Max little by little, a faint breeze began to stir.

He narrowed his eyes and focused harder.

Crack!

A spark came out from his hand and into the phone.
