The next morning I got up bright and early to get ready for my party.

"Happy birthday Adina!" Mama and Papa said together.

"Thank you!" I said.

I ate a quick breakfast, but hurrying so I could plan my outfit. I wore my only dress I had, it was a light white flowery dress that went just above my knees. I did a twirl in front of the mirror. I then brushed my long dirty blonde hair back into a braid and put on my mamas blue pin that matched my eyes perfectly.

Then just moments later there was a knock on the door. I ran down stairs and greeted some of my school friends in, Ruzha, Eva, Gabrielle, and Jano. Then Eliana came a few minutes after. They followed me to my back yard giggling. It was a beautiful sunny day and we all sat together chatting. Eva stood off in the distance and every so often checking her watch. I scoffed at her. It was like she was sitting through math class, waiting for it to be over. My parents appeared in front of me with a wrapped box in there arms.

"Oh papa, mama, a present!" I shouted.

Everyone gathered around the table as I opened the present. I thought about what it could be, but I was to curious. I ripped open the box and there it was, a telescope to look at the stars! My mouth formed an "O."

" Do you like it?" My Papa asked.

"I love it!" I said grabbing my parents into a hug.

Eliana then placed a small bag on my lap.

"Oh, Eliana, you weren't supposed to. That's too kind." I said.

My mom made it clear that no presents, except from family were to come.

"We are un-biological sisters!" Eliana stated.

"Okay" I said as I opened the bag. Inside was a drawing of her and I gazing up into the stars. She was a true artist.

"It's perfect, thanks" I told Eliana.

" Your welcome" She said.

"Dessert!" Mama shouted out.

She held my favourite dessert, berry delight as mama would say.

"Where did you get the sugar mama?" I asked.

"Eliana's mom pitched in" mama said.

"Why thank you" I said while hugging Eliana's mom.

I blew out a single candle and everyone clapped. Papa dished out the dessert and put a plate in front of me. I took a bite of the dessert. It was amazing. I enjoyed the mix of the berries and the sweet sugar. As we ate we chatted and the parents topic changed to hitler.

"Let's go over there." I said to my guest.

Everyone nodded in agreement. We chatted about usual things like what we wanted to be when we're older, then it turned into a fight when Eva started snapping at Gabrielle. I suggested we played a game of tag. We ran around the back yard, me being the fastest person in the group and never getting tagged. As we got tired we sat down on the grass and parents started arriving.

When everyone was gone I sat down with Mama and Papa on the front porch. I found the North Star and the Big Dipper with the new telescope. I smiled at Papa and showed him the North Star.

"Sailors used this star to navigate their boat Adina." Papa said.

"Yes papa, the North Star never moves." I stated.

"Correct young one" he said.

I smiled and gazed up into the sky. I thought of the day when I was 13 and the Nazis came. "Heil hitler!" The soldiers yelled to us as they marched by. I had been forced to raise my right arm and repeat what they had said. After they made a law that the Jewish had to wear a six point yellow star.

"Papa, when will it be over? When will President Bene come back?" I asked him.

"Oh Adina, this is not something you should worry about on your birthday." Papa said.

After a few minutes we went back up stairs. As soon as I changed and lay down in my bed I fell asleep instantly.
