A short story using first person pov.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

After the funeral for Tony and Steve returning the infinity stones to their places in time Sam, Bucky, and myself found ourselves standing in a parking lot. Clint and his family were with us along with Thor,Bruce, and Peter.

"So," Nick said from where he stood with his arms crossed. "What's the plan?"

"We don't have one," Bruce replied. "Not all of us together anyway."

"I never thought I'd see the day," Thor frowned. We all stood in mournful silence.

Clint joined our group, "Well, I guess this is goodbye for now?"

"Goodbye for now," I said and hugged him.

"Don't be a stranger now you hear?" Clint said. "If the fox ever makes it down our way the door is always open."

"I'll remember that."

Bucky and he shook hands. "You look out for her Buck."

Bucky smiled and nodded.

"Avengers Assemble?" I asked with tears rolling down my cheeks. We all enjoyed one last group hug before stepping away again.

"I've got some business to attend too in Asgard, from there, well, I don't really have a path," Thor said as he picked up his hammer. "Goodbye all. If you ever need me just pray for thunder." With that he raised his hammer and was taken into the sky above.

Clint nodded, "Alright, well I had better be off. I've got a baseball game to get to."

"Bye," We all said as our archer walked away. Bruce was next to leave.

"Well, if you ever make it up to queens I hope we can hang sometime," Peter shrugged. I hugged him, "Goodbye Spider-man. Keep doing what you do. And maybe we will take you up on that offer."

Peter blushed, "Thanks Y/n." With that Peter raised his arm and swung away.

"I'm gonna miss that kid," I smile fondly.

Nick spoke finally, "What about you three?"

Sam shrugged, "I've got no choice but to start over. I think I'm gonna go visit my sister and wait for the repercussions to catch up."

"We're going to my parents," I informed. "They've got a place in the hills down in Arkansas. It's quiet."

"Figured it would be a good place to lay low for a while," Bucky added. "There's bound to be some cleanup to do so we will wait for that."

"We both need some time away, in silence."

"Well enjoy your peace. This box here is what's been salvaged from the compound ruins. Pepper has already been through it and took a few things that were Tony's." He nudged that cardboard box. "Whatever is left after you take what you want just throw it out or something. Bye." Nick walked to his car.

Bucky opened the box and knelt in front of it, "Man, I never thought I'd see this again." He lifted out his black mask. I found a picture frame that had the photo of Nat, me, and Wanda. I put that on the ground beside me. Next came a pair of pants. We left that in the box. After that we found another picture. Bucky stared down at it.

"He's happy," I smiled at the photo of Steve. "We may miss him but he's happy now."

Bucky nodded and took out a trophy I recognized from the front hall.

Buck and I looked at each other before nodding.

"We can put it in our house?" I asked. Neither of us wanted to part with it.

"I can't believe they're gone," I whispered.

Bucky put his arm around me and kissed my head, "I know. It's going to hurt for a very long time but it's going to be okay. You'll see."

I wiped my eyes with my fingers, "I guess we're starting over eh?"

"Well yeah. We're both out of jobs with no home and about 50,000 between the two of us thanks to Pepper. I'd call that ground 0."

I laughed lightly, "Oh man, thank goodness for my parents. I haven't even seen them face-to-face in six years. And my brother too."

"Speaking of which, we should probably get going if we want to get there within the week."

Bucky and I made it to Arkansas the following Monday. Never had hills looked so beautiful. The air was warm and the sun was shining as Bucky drove down the familiar dirt road.

"Ah there he is!" I squealed when I saw my childhood horse grazing in the field along the road. "Oh Buck, you're gonna love it here. Wide open spaces, no cages."

"Just what I need," He says calmly. "By the way, no matter what gets thrown at us in the next few months, we're going to be alright. Us."

"Thanks," I smiled shyly.

"I don't know where I would be without you doll. Probably the streets of brooklyn. Quite possibly the state penitentiary."

"You've been pardoned. I don't think they're going to put you behind bars for trying to live after a war."

"Yeah well, I know some people disagree with that."

"I don't. That wasn't you Bucky. That was hydra. You didn't have a choice."

"I know, I just can't help but feel like I'm still responsible."

"Your mind is lying to you babe. You'd never hurt anyone," I replied as Bucky pulled up in front of my house. I undid my belt and kissed him, "Come on Serge. Our family is waiting for us."

And waiting for us they were. The door opened and my ecstatic parents ran towards us.

"Oh thank heavens!" My mother exclaimed as she wiped her hands on her apron.

"Momma!" I hugged her tightly.

"Oh baby you're home," She held my head. "Look at you. You're all a grown up. And a hero none the less."

I sighed and kissed her hand.

"But these last years have not been kind to you have they?"

I shook my head. My father hugged me next, "Oh we missed you sweet-pea. We have done nothing but fret since seeing the news. Fighting a space god-something out of your stories!"

I laughed, "Not my choice. Mom, dad, this is James Barnes. Or Bucky."

"It is so nice to meet you Bucky," My mom hugs him. Bucky shakes my dads hand, "Good to meet you sir."

"You to son," Dad replies politely.

"Alright well you two must be starving. I have chicken pie and brownies ready to go," My mom ushers us both into the house.

"I could eat," Bucky smiles.

"Well, good. I've got to put some meat on your bones," My mom put her hands on her hips and eyed Buck up and down.

"Blipping for five years will do it to a person," Bucky chuckled. "Thank you again for taking me in."

"You're family now-sakes alive is this all you two have?" My brother says as he sets our bags by the stairs.

"Jake!" I squeal and hug my big brother.

"Hey sis! Long time no see!"

"Says you. You never even bothered to come see me!"

"Well you were so busy being miss avenger I didn't think I had time."

I punched his shoulder.

My family ate dinner together that night for the first time in years. It was great to be home again. Bucky was smiling more than I had seen him do so in weeks. I looked around at everyone's grinning faces. Ah yes, this is what life felt like.

Peaceful at last.
