San Diego Tuesday, May 9th,
Nessa drums her fingers against the arm rest of their rental car as they pull up to the familiar house with the cream colored exterior and dark brown accents on the sides of the windows, the dark of the accents contrasting the light cream of the exterior of the house beautifully. Nessa stares at the exterior of the house as the knot in her stomach tightens as Dominik pulls in and parks in the driveway. Nessa see's a curtain flutter in movement, signalling that Angie was watching for their arrival. Neither of them make a move to exit the car, Nessa's nervous tapping on the arm rest, her other hand firm in Dominiks hand. Dominik raises their conjoined hands placing a kiss to the back of her hand.
"It's not too late to cancel Mi Sol. I can have Mom call him and cancel. We can just go in and go to sleep." Dominik offers, giving her the out he feels she needs. Nessa takes a shaky breath and shakes her head before answering.
"Np, No, I can do this... I think... Should I do this Ducky?" Nessa looks at Dominik her eyes wide and filled with tears, some of them spilling over and falling down her cheeks. Dominik cups her cheek wiping away her tears.
"Hey, this is up to you but I do think it is a good idea at some point to talk to him. You made this decision very quickly, you could postpone a few weeks or months or never if you want. I will support whatever you choose." Dominik promises, hiding his own anxiety better than Nessa is. He smiles at her when she turns her head and kisses his palm. Nessa releases Dominiks other hand and uses both of hers to wipe away her tears.
"Lets get this out of the way and then we decide where to go from there." Nessa tries to pep herself up to get ready to face her father. Dominik scoffs and rolls his eyes. "No, Corazon, you decide where to go and we follow. You don't need to ask us for permission for every little thing. Baby I thought we worked through that the first time around." Dominik looked at her sadly, realization setting in he did more damage than he thought when he left her. His chest hurting at the thought of her blaming herself still for him leaving and that is why she always asks for permission.
"I... Uh... ok" Nessa gives in unable to explain her setback, her eyes flickering to the window, seeing Angie's form leaning against the door frame to the house, her arms crossed clearly inpatient waiting for her children. Dominik turns to see his mom clearly annoyed and he curses under his breath and gets out of the car, Nessa doing the same not wanting to face Angie's wrath. Dominik grabs Nessa's hand and they make their way up the path and meet Angie at the door.
"It's about time. Nessa mija go to the back yard by the pool, I have some tea there for you, Dom you stay in the kitchen. Kevin will be here any moment so do whatever you need to to be ready sweetheart. Dominik I told you stay in the kitchen" Angie reiterates, her tone going sharp as she repeats herself when Dominik tried to Follow Nessa into the backyard. Dominik stops in his tracks and turns to face his mom, his face contorted into a pout. The same pout that he would use as a child. Angie rolls her eyes, crossing her arms and shifting her weight.
"If you must be so nosy in such a delicate time then you can watch from the window." Angie cuts off when the door bell rings. Dominik jerks his whole body towards the front of the house. Angie holds up her hand, silently telling him to stay put while she goes to answer the door. Dominik bounces up and down, one arm crossed over his chest, the other bent around it, chewing on his thumbnail. A habit he has picked up from Nessa.
He drops his arms to his side as the lumbering frame follows his mom into the kitchen. Dominik stares at him warily. Angie rolls her eyes again and just walks outside to the back yard while Kevin pauses momentarily and looks Dom up and down appraisingly before just nodding his head and walking out the back door, the door swinging closed behind him. Dominik steps to the door, his hand resting on the handle, the tip of his nose pressing on the glass, streaks of fog appearing from breathing. Watching the tall figure slowly head towards Nessa sitting on the edge one of the beach beds, clearly wringing her hands.
