What You're Looking For

🥀Chapter Eleven🥀

"Hey," you answered the phone.

"Hey, so I guess Josh and Jake were planning on seeing a movie today. They asked me to come with."

"Oh. Okay, well we can do something later I guess."

"Well, Becca's coming too."

"Oh, okay."

"And Luke."

"I see."

"Josh suggested I invite you."

"I can meet you guys at the movie theatre."

"Okay. I'll buy your popcorn."

"Thanks, Sammy."

"I'll see you soon."

You were excited to see Sam again but you weren't really sure what that dynamic would be like with everyone else around. Last time the six of you were together it was Thanksgiving and you ended up going home early.

You didn't really love the idea that everyone might be thinking of you and Sam as partners. You weren't there yet and as guilty as it made you feel, there was still a part of you that cared about what Jake thought. There might have even been a part of you that was still holding out hope for Jake.

You got to the movie theatre and spotted Jake and Becca first. They waved you over and Jake gave you your ticket.

"Thanks, Jake. I can pay you back," you told him.

"No need. It's my treat."

The three of you stood off to the side of the box office. You were looking around, wondering where the other three were.

"How was dinner with Lucas last night?" Jake asked you.

"It was good. We had a good time. How are things with you and Sam?"

"We're good. We're working on things."

"That's good."

"What about you?"

"Hmm?"

"Things with you and Sam?"

"Jake."

You shook your head then looked over at the parking lot. Sam, Josh and Lucas were approaching you guys. Sam seemed to be attempting to conceal a smile. Jake handed them their tickets and the six of you made your way to your seats. You didn't really know who was sitting where but you also figured you'd kind of end up wherever the others wanted you.

Becca and Jake sat down furthest into the row. Then Josh and Lucas. You turned to Sam.

"Do you wanna sit by Luke?" you asked him.

"Sure. Will you help me get some snacks?"

"Yeah, let's go."

You followed Sam out to the concessions. He held his hand out behind him and you paused to make sure no one was around before you took it.

"You alright?" he asked you.

"I'm fine."

"You're being so quiet. It's making me nervous."

"I'm just trying to decide if I want Reese's Pieces or Sour Patch Kids."

"You can have both. I was probably gonna grab a bunch of stuff for all of us to share."

"You're so thoughtful."

Sam shrugged but gave you a smile. You grabbed two or three different candies and handed them to Sam.
