After the funeral for Sheila Bennett, Bonnie had decided to visit family outside of Mystic Falls to grieve for her Grams. She texts Lexa and Caroline daily and called a couple of times in the week to keep up with them and the Mystic Falls gossip. Lexa had organised for the teachers to e-mail Bonnie any work, so she didn't fall too behind on school. Lexa had taken Caroline on that shopping trip she promised, and they had bought way more than they needed, but the retail therapy really helped.
Now, Lexa was sat sketching in the living room. Elena was outside on the porch, writing in her diary. She was also phoning Bonnie, but the Bennett witch wasn't answering, so she was leaving a voicemail instead. Lexa had guessed that Bonnie held a slight resentment to Elena for her Grams death, so she was ignoring her. Not that she blamed her one bit. The reason that Lexa could hear her, was that she'd opened a window to get some air into the house. She was regretting it slightly since all she could hear was Elena's whining. Until she heard Jenna come home.
"What are you doing out here? It's cold" Jenna asks Elena.
"Thinking, writing. The, uh, funeral for Bonnie's grandma, it brought back a lot about mom and dad. I was wondering...you said that you would do some digging about them, the adoption"
Lexa had to hold in a snort. Jenna had asked her for some clues on the identity of their birth parents so she could give Elena something. She had showed her the appointment book of their fathers from his medical practice. Jenna had then done a wonderful job of researching herself and found their birth mother's name. Never underestimate a woman on a mission to research someone from long ago.
"Right" Jenna drawled out.
"So, did you? Dig?" Elena asked expectantly.
"Come on inside"
Lexa ducked down so she couldn't be seen from the kitchen, where Jenna was setting up her laptop.
"Your dad kept everything from his medical practice - records, logs, old appointment books" Jenna explained whilst pulling the old journal out and opening it to a specific page. "I found an entry from the night you guys were born. Patient and a birth date. Isobel Peterson"
"Do you think it's her real name?" Elena asked with hope. Lexa scoffed. A pregnant teenager uses her real name?
"Pregnant teenage runaway? Probably not. First name, maybe. But where'd she get Peterson? Classmate? Best friend? So, I binged it. I searched for all the Petersons in this area born the same year as Isobel, found 3--2 men and a woman, Trudie, who lived in Grove Hill, Virginia" Jenna explained to Elena.
"That's not far from here" Elena exclaimed, shocked.
"Well, watch this" Jenna says with a smirk. She's proud of her research skills. And so was Lexa. Jenna would do anything for them.
"Isobel" Elena breathed out. "She was a cheerleader"
"Trudie still lives there. This is her address"
"What about Isobel?" Elena asks impatiently.
Good luck finding her, unless she wants to be found Lexa thought.
"I couldn't find anything about her. Listen there's something else" Jenna said hesitantly. "Mr Saltzman, Ric, his wife was from around here, and her name was also Isobel"
"Wait, 'was', as in..."
"She died" Jenna said softly, trying to break the news gently. "It's a homicide cold case. I'm sorry. Will you tell Lexa?"
"Soon" Elena aid curtly, before she ran upstairs, trying to adjust to all the new information she was given. Lexa popped her head up and grinned at Jenna.
