"What is so bad about having a little piece of cake?" Spencer asked, after Veronica's long-winded rant about yet another birthday at work.

The two had officially been dating for three months now.

"It's the forced socializing," She huffed, "I mean, just because we work in the same office, why do we have to act like we're friends?"

Spencer paused, checking his watch. "Why aren't you there now?"

"I had to take a sick day," She sighed.

"You're sick?" Spencer asked worriedly, wondering why she would tell him how annoyed she was about another office birthday party instead of what he felt was much more important.

"Yeah. So sick of these people," She grumbled.

"They can't be that bad," He chuckled.

"One of them didn't want a pager because he didn't want to have to work outside working hours. So he told management he couldn't use a pager because he was allergic to electricity. Said his chiropractor diagnosed him with electrophobia," She said dryly.

"..." Even Spencer didn't know how to respond to that, "You know, maybe having a more positive attitude at work will make it easier," He advised, trying to help.

"You know what? I am not as mean as I would like to be and I really wish people appreciated that," She countered, feeling like that was more than enough, "I stopped throwing stuff in Hitchcock's mouth when he takes his naps."

"You know that's a choking hazard, right?"

"He did choke. Multiple times," She laughed, "But I think something got logged in there last time I did it and now he makes this annoying wheezing sound when she naps."

"Okay, quiz time," Spencer decided, wanting to change the subject and hopefully brighten her mood.

They'd started a little game where Spencer went over his class material with her. He'd recount a crime to her and she would try to guess the motive.

"Maybe he's a surrogate for the bully in high school he can't punish?" Veronica guessed.

"Who were yours?" Spencer asked, instead of continuing the game

Veronica shrugged before remembering she was on the phone. "I don't even remember."

"You don't even remember?" Spencer repeated in disbelief, knowing that wasn't something easily forgotten, "Wait, were you one of the mean girls?"

"...No," She said nervously, scared the real answer would scare him off.

He chuckled. "I think that you might have been a mean girl."

"I was actually one of the nicer girls," She tried to defend herself, "Even to guys like you."

It was true. Sure, she'd been part of the mean girls but she had her moments like distracting her jock boyfriend from doling out wedgies by making out with him.
